Bea moved swiftly along the length of the corridor between the kitchen and the foyer, ducking beneath the party decorations strewn along the way. Colorful streamers and dozens of balloons crowded the kitchen’s entryway, the inside of which was far more chaotic. Platters upon platters of finger foods and hors d'oeuvres lined the counters as well as a sizable cake that took up a large portion of the table. Bea sighed in relief at the sight of the food. at least one thing might hopefully go right today… Bea thought. Not that they didn’t have faith in their siblings but.. you have to give credit to their track records. Today, 14+ Hargreeves would be gathered in one house, something that occurs only once in a blue moon and often signifies the end of the goddamn world. It was of course, to celebrate the first birthday party of the newest and youngest member of the family. Therefore, understandably, Bea’s stress levels were through the roof. After signing off on the food, Bea moved back to the living room, double and triple checking the decor. The soft blue and yellow setting of the living room soothed them slightly. The house, that for so long had stood for nothing but the misery of their childhood, would now hopefully become the setting of one of their happiest days and mark one of the first of many happy years to come.

Ben giggled, chewing on his stuffed cat and watching Bea. “Ma!”

Bea smiled softly at the sight of their child. “Hey baby..” They cooed softly, arms stretching to pick him up off the floor. “Do you have any idea what’s happening today?” They looked around the room once more, taking in the calm before the inevitable storm.

He clung to Bea’s shirt, cooing softly. “Ma…?”

Bea bounced him lightly on their hip. “You’re one year old today!” They bopped his nose. “Did you know that? You’re a whole one year. Yay!” They cheered quietly, smile never faltering.

Ben giggled and chewed contentedly on his cat.

Bea awoke suddenly with a groan. Ben’s wailing could be heard from rooms away and Bea stumbled out of bed tiredly. They cast blurry eyes towards the clock on the nightstand. 3am. Matt was still out on patrol so all the baby responsibility landed on Bea tonight. They pulled on a sweater and walked over to Ben’s crib.

Ben’s cries quieted slightly when he saw Bea, tears running down his face, his small hands digging into his stuffed cat.

“Hi baby..” Bea mumbled quietly. They leaned down to pick him up, rocking him slightly. “Don’t cry… Moddy’s here.” They shushed quietly, kissing his forehead softly.

He sniffled and grabbed their hair, squirming in Bea’s arms. “Ma?”

“Mhm.” Bea smiled down at him. “Yes baby..” They poked his nose gently. “It’s okay.” They moved back to their bed, still holding him. Bea waved their hand, turning on the soft lights of a revolving night light. “Look baby.. look at the stars.” Bea cooed.

Ben looked up at the stars on the ceilings, his sobs fading. He grabbed Bea’s fingers and giggled.

Bea let out a low chuckle, still cooing at Ben. They moved some pillows to make a place for him to sit on comfortably. They sat with him in their lap, holding onto his tiny hands.

He cooed happily and squirmed on the pillows. “Ah?”

Bea smiled wider (if that was possible). “You are so cute baby. Did you know that? Did you?” Bea baby talked in a sweet voice.

Ben giggled and grabbed Bea’s fingers.

Bea wiggled their fingers, playfully, laughing softly at his antics. They kissed the top of his head and picked him off the bed again to cradle him in their arms.

He leaned his head against Bea, sucking gently on his stuffed cat’s ear.

Monroe chuckles softly and squeezes his cheek gently. “So adorable.”

He looked around as soon as they got outside, staring at all the new things.

No that’s not mr pennycrumb, he’s still at home, but maybe that’s his cousin?? *gasp* like you and me!!—Oh I’m getting off topic, I gotta teach— yeah there are lots and lots of dogs around but not all of them are mr pennycrumb, tho I personally think he is the best dog, I’m a bit biased tho

The dog barked and sniffed at Ben.
