For My First Trick....er... Post!

I thought I would give a little info about me. Heads-up: If you dislike any of this, you can either put up with it or kindly find the door, because while I will happily entertain intelligent debate/ discussion, telling me I'm wrong for my beliefs (note I said "beliefs". Telling me I'm wrong because I'm misinformed and actively have my *facts* wrong is welcome and encouraged. See below for more) is bigoted, rude, and toxic and will not be entertained. Yes, I sound like a B**** for that, but hey, gotta be honest off the bat, right?

If you're interested in learning more about me...

Okay, so, just a thinky thing..

I'm considering doing some writing on a sideblog and doing the admin (accepting asks, posting links, etc) on here, so that I don't clog this blog with writing but still get to write. Thing is, I can't promise any longer pieces will have a conclusion. On the one hand, most writing I do (when I don't limit myself to a short piece/ plot goal) simply keeps going as the story writes itself. On the other, I have this thing where I like to rewrite story/ show plots the way I would do them, and so I tend to want to allow readers to do the same.

So, bearing in mind that longer, independently started (non-requested) stuff my just be consistently ongoing or open-ended, while requested would have an ending, and/or include reactions and headcanons, alphabets, things like that, would anyone want to see fanfic writing from me?

Fandoms range from Marvel to Shadow and Bone to Doctor Who to TWD and everywhere in between, so it's pretty varied, and I'm usually open to suggestions if anyone has any I should look into.

Thoughts?

y’all really recommend books like: title, there are gay characters, enemies to lovers, young adult, written by poc

not once do i ever see a summary

What more info do you need?

A SUMMARY

WHAT DO U MENA SUMMARY WHAT ELSE MATTERS ITS GAY POC AND ENEMIES TO LOVERS HOW OFTEN DO U CONE ACROSS THAT

i want to know what its about mainly. is it a romance? is there plot besides the romance? is it realistic fiction? sci fi? fantasy? historical? future? alternate history? whats the tone? what are the themes? what are the main characters’ NAMES?

I- it’s gay the gay

i value queer characters too. but i also want to know WHAT THE BOOK I’M READING IS ABOUT.

“GAY AND/OR RACIALLY DIVERSE” IS NOT A GENRE. nor is it an indicator of quality

do you know how many times I’ve been recommended a book solely because “it’s queer fantasy!”

do you know how many times those books have been so poorly written that I couldn’t finish them

Mostly, I want to know the tone. A 19th century war story isn’t gonna do it for me when I’m in the mood for a lighthearted austenesque romance - and those are both historical. A star warsy space romp isn’t gonna do it if I want to read about interplanetary political negotiations - and those are both sci fi. A fun gratuitious don’t-think-about-it-too-hard action story is not the same as a dark and complicated mob drama. A suspenseful thriller will bore me if I’m looking for a fast paced spy novel.

not providing a summary literally just shows how you treat marginalized people and their representation as this token woke thing that you can show off like a shiny trophy. no, people aren’t going to read something just because it has representation! that’s not how it works!

I will say this, to add to this thread: if the story is boring, I will not read it. If there is nothing that I can gain from it except for “oh look at how inclusive and diverse this story is!!” I’m not reading it. And summaries are the starting points for that.

“BUT THIS STORY HAVE QUEER PEOPLE, POC, DISABLED PEOPLE, ETC!!” Okay?? But does it have drama? Does it have a STORYLINE??? WHAT THE FUCK IS THE STORY ABOUT???

As important as it is to be inclusive, people need to include {pun very much intended} a summary.

Why does this sound like my internal dialog when I'm reading dating sites (yes, I do visit them from time to time)? 'I'mma see if there's any interesting people on here'

- ten minutes later -

'I don't give a damn if you're into oranges and visited Santorini once! I wanna know if you like music or if you hate dogs!!' (and are therefore no match for me because if you hate dogs, you will not like me lol)

Like, seriously. I know dating profiles are kinda like judging a book by its cover, but at least then the book has a cover to look at! Tell me something about yourself so I actually know if you're potentially interesting or potentially irritating af, pleeeease! Heck, just post your fave Dad Joke. If it makes me laugh, you have literally a 200% higher chance I'll say hi than most other people.
