abt the ikon being homophobic discourse

first off, here’s a link to the video (x) it’s taken from ikon ground, a dvd available for japanese fans and it’s from summer 2018 (i don’t know the exact date, but it’s not an old video like some people said)

I’m gonna explain the situation: they were playing a game where they had to make someone guess a word. hanbin had to make his mom guess the word “헐” (an onomatopeia used to express surprise/shock) and he “came out” to make her say it but eventually failed the mission bcos the time was up

full translation of what was said in that video:

hm: ??

now that was some dumb fucking shit and it was extremely insensitive : when u come out in korea, ur parents kick u out and very rarely will they react well (not to mention all the things you’ll go thru at work or at school if people know ur gay. also it’s illegal in military law and u can go to prison for this). for him to “come out” as a prank was the epitome of stupidity. bear in mind that in korea homosexuality is either treated as a disease or as a joke (especially in the media), but almost never as a serious topic

however, what i want to address is this clown 

u know ikon (and i say ikon bcos all of them laughed as far as im concerned) fucked up already no need to lie to make matters worse lmao actually maybe that person thought they were being funny by exaggerating things? whatever im just pissed that that mistranslation was spread

anyway bobby didn’t say anything abt mental stability but at the end of the day hanbin did “come out” as a prank while the other laughed. what i don’t want to see is people defending what he did bcos coming out isn’t a lighthearted topic at all and im saying this on a korean point of view (so really what’s his excuse, apart from being thoughtless).
