So, this is happening. It’ll definitely feel more romance novel than fanfic (I hope to convert it and publish it eventually, but that’s a longer conversation). The writing has begun!

UPDATE This is still happening - in fact, I started it and plotted out nearly the whole thing - but it's not going to start posting in March. I need more time with it than that, and it's important to me to do this story right. It has SO MUCH potential and I really, really do love a fun historical romance. After writing and posting the Ameliam Rock Star AU, my brain is just FILLED with that verse for the moment and I'm thinking I might write a series of novellas in that world (how Elara got together, rival electric guitar players Jules and Alex, shy karaoke singer Penny and pianist Nate who sees her potential, Will's mentor Felicity and his dad Oliver...) and publish them. It took me all of 4 days to draft the Ameliam story. 5k a day came pretty easily, even if it was time consuming. As long as I'm loving it and it's productive... I mean, why the hell not keep going, right? It's DEFINITELY got potential for KU. I'm not in a spot to pay for professional editing or covers at the moment, so I'll either need to do it myself (and possibly lean on some friends for help) or wait until I can afford to invest a little, but getting it out into the world in a way that accurately represents it as original fiction seems like a good idea to me. It's possible (likely?) that the next fic I post on AO3 will actually be the Elara spy vs. spy. I'm playing with that between other projects and really liking the vibe. It's Sara's PoV which comes a lot more naturally after writing the Ameliam Rock Star story (about time!!!). Anyhow, I just wanted to let you all know where I was at and what's going on story-wise. Basically, I'm being way less strict with my plans. I'm playing where I want to play. Posting as I want to post. I have to fight back feeling guilty for not keeping to a schedule and giving you all clear expectations, which is extremely silly I know (I KNOW). Thank you guys for your continued support. Coming back to writing has been a joy and keeping myself in check so I don't build up to a burnout again isn't easy. ♥

Fandom Trumps Hate Offerings

Harry Potter changed my life and brought me so many friends both online and in brickspace. But between the anti trans lobbying of JK Rowling, and the blatant Anti-Semitic elements of the new video game, I'm not able to find joy in it any more.

I have decided to auction off my two Harry Potter Funko Pop Advent Calendars. I asked the mods @fandomtrumpshate if I could join their event and got the OK!

I will pay for domestic shipping and am willing to negotiate international shipping for a larger donation or a PayPal reimbursement. There will be two separate auctions, but if the same person wins both I'll combine shipping.

the 2018 calendar has the doors ripped off , is missing the outer sleeve and the pop up tree. There is a slight age warp to the top flap. All the figures are in good condition .

Even when I write daily for months on end, this happens to me every time I sit down at a keyboard. And, like, I’ve posted over a million words of fanfic and published two books.

I know this is wild, but people continue to enjoy things after they become adults.

I’ll post more about my thoughts and possible plans soon. I’m mulling things over and trying to decide what approach best serves me, my readership, and my stories. Thanks for answering!

The joy of writing is the main point for me at this stage. Somewhere along the way, I lost that. I never want that to happen again.

The second most important thing to me is the sense of community I get with my more interactive readers. AO3 is fantastic for comments, but less great for ongoing chat or more than two people. That's why I started thinking about Patreon as a possibility. Additionally, it would have the benefit of giving me a very small income to save toward getting a high quality cover and/or professional editing done. That's NOT cheap. Which leads us to the third most important thing...

Truthfully, I lost thousands of dollars publishing my first two books. That's extremely common. Most indie authors who use professional editors and cover designers don't get out of the red until 4-7 books in. But it's also demoralizing as hell (hello burnout!!). I've put an incredible amount of time and money into writing and publishing. I would like to break even at some point. That requires growing an audience base. KU, for all its many many flaws, is the best way to do that.

So, that's kind of where I'm at. Looking at these trope bingo short stories and my plans for the Royalty AU, it struck me that it would take very, very little work to make them unquestionably original and expand them out slightly into something publishable. So, why not consider that? It's joyful and the work is 75% done, after all.

I don't know what I'm going to do yet exactly - that's why your votes here matter so much - but I'm feeling the drive to do something which is a hell of a lot better than I was doing for the two years prior.

Anyhow, please vote if you haven't. I'm off to work on Rock Star Will Queen secretly writing songs about his inconvenient feels for his publicist. ♥♥♥

Thank you to those that voted!! This helps me a lot and it closely mirrors responses on Twitter, too. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’m gonna do going forward… Ideally, I’d like to meet everyone where they’re at and give them the experience they prefer. That’ll take a little juggling but I *think* I can do it, and make it all serve my interests too. I just need a while to work out the details.

Those messenger screen names that haven’t logged on in ages, some before detailed profiles were a thing on those services.

Those emails that are long since abandoned, some with domains that no longer exist.

Those online friends you knew years ago and who then helped shaped you in some way, who you just can’t FIND anymore.

Those people who once were, and hopefully still exist IRL, that seem to have no known internet life anymore.

And those who have actually passed on, and their online lives are now a memorial to them.

I miss you all. I hope life is/was kind to you, and maybe one day, we’ll somehow connect again.

Many, many years ago I had an online friend who beta read fanfic for me. We talked all the time. The fandom dissolved, as fandoms often do. I don’t even remember which fandom it was anymore, but I moved on to a new one and we spoke less and less frequently. The last time I talked to her, probably 15-20 years ago or so, she was so excited. She had just gotten her first real job working in journalism... at a news station in Syria. I still think of her every time I see news from Syria. I don’t dare wonder what happened to her.

I love that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are one character here, as they should be.
