How Long is this Fic Really?: A Guide

Word count in the HP Series:

Sorcerer’s Stones: 76,944  Chamber of Secrets: 85,141 Prisoner of Azkaban: 107,253  Goblet of Fire: 190,637 Order of the Phoenix: 257,045 Half-Blood Prince: 168,923 Deathly Hallows: 198,227

Word count in the LOTR Series:

The Hobbit: 95,022 Fellowship of the Ring: 177,227 Two Towers: 143,436 Return of the King: 134,462

This changed me

I’ve read/ am reading fic that are upwards to 150,000 - 200,000. You’re telling me that authors that write for fun are writing a full-length book for the fun of it? They have earned my respect 10 fold.

Adding on to this by reminding everyone to leave feedback on fics. Seriously, y’all, fic writers put their heart, soul, blood, sweat, tears, and time into their writing. The least that you could do is let them know you enjoyed their works.

Tell them. TELL THEM (for people in the back). Even if it’s just “loved it” or “i really enjoyed that” or “SCREAMING”…for gods sake tell them!

I have a very vivid memory of sitting in a first grade classroom (first grade was my first actual classroom because my mom homeschooled me for kindergarten) thinking “I am literally going to die, I can’t live one more minute without reading a story, but I’ve already gotten my book confiscated for peeking at it during class and I have no backup book and I’m going to die” and then thinking in a burst of divine inspiration “WHAT IF I TELL MYSELF A STORY INSIDE MY HEAD.  THEY CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME.  PHYSICALLY THEY CANNOT.”

they could not

That’s how it begins

And on that day, a writer was born. <3

…I almost killed myself

I put on my sunglasses, to hide my swollen eyes, over my tears. I cried all my makeup off. Went inside to have a milkshake. I don’t know why. I wanted something to drink as I figured out what I would do. I got a soda and a milkshake. Medium. The cashier looked at me and with a line around the corner of the counter he rushed away from the counter “Hold on “ he yelled to a coworker.

I filled my soda and went back and saw him looking all over. I go up and he gets close and says “I made it a large”.

That was seriously enough for me not to do it. His kindness. Someone went out of their way and as I went back in my car to cry I realized I could muster through a few other days. A few more weeks. Then I came down from that panicky high of anxiety, depression, and pain. I finished my shake. And it was enough time to let me feel better. I… I’m alive. I’ll make it through.

Try and be nice today. Tomorrow. Something as much as a smile. It helped so much.

Thank you man at McDonalds.

The milkshake saved my life

I hope you all can read this and remember to be kind

The smallest of gestures can save a life. My Mum answered her phone when I called and I am alive today because of that.

I’m glad you’re here.

It’s a phone call, a milkshake, a friend.

I feel like I shouldn’t keep reblogging this but when I do more people see what kindness can do…. I don’t know. Love everyone as yourself.

Nah, keep rebloging it. It gives hope.

I once accidentally texted the wrong person, because their names were right next to each other in my phone contacts, and the girl I accidentally texted was apparently about to commit suicide. She answered my text because she didn’t want to end it with something left undone. I didn’t know that at the time. I also usually tell people when I accidentally text the wrong number, but I didn’t that time for whatever reason. After that, every time she considered, she ended up texting me for a while, until she and my best friend at the time started dating, at which time she texted him instead.

They’re now married, with a beautiful four year old son and a daughter who is due within the next 4 days.

The things that keep us alive… they’re so small. Milkshakes, phonecalls, and wrong numbers…

OMG. @purplespaladin– this gave me 5 milkshakes. Wow…. Thank you.

I checked this at lunch and it’s up 5k notes up… its amazing to read all of your stories. Thank you for sharing them all with me. I’m glad I can bring kindness to someone’s forefront of their mind.

I would like to point out that this photo implies that Tai, Raven, and Qrow haven’t changed outfits in like 10+ years.

Actually, he didn’t. He’s a dad. He’s wearing these.
