Rating primeval creatures based on how much I would want to keep them as a pet
I'm going to be going episode by episode rating as many on screen animals (past, present and future) as I can based on arbitrary categories that only I know about.
I will not be factoring cost into my ratings as this is hypothetical however I will be thinking about how practical they would be in terms of maintenance and equipment.
Season 1 episode 1
(I'm fairly sure these are sailfin lizards but they never actually say)
Okay so I know I said this was supposed to be completely hypothetical however as I did a bit of research on these guys and long story short they are now on my list of reptiles that I would like to keep in the future.
They lose a point because they have very human eyes and I'm not sure how to feel about that.
No suprise here but I love Rex. I have the toy and named my basilisk after him. He's an incredibly intelligent animal which is always fun to interact with and appears to have toe pads instead of claws which (in my opinion) is nicer to handle and also means he's less likely to damage things such as curtains and fabric. Also, while he is shown free roaming in abbys flat in the show, I feel as though it would be fairly simple and fun to build a suitable enclosure for him.
Unfortunately he does lose point due to the fact that he also has incredibly human eyes and his behaviour is often more like a cat or dog than a reptile which I find harder to read.
I can relate alot to the scutosaurus in episode 1. I also don't like travelling, having bright lights shone in my eyes and season 1 Connor. They remind me a bit of pigs as they are very large, vocal, herbivores and I think that if they were more used to people they would probably be fairly reasonable to interact with.
However the only pig breed I have any experience of keeping are kunekunes, which are significantly smaller. Despite this they are still potentially dangerous and a pig the size of a scutosaurus could very easily accidentally crush someone.
Right off the bat this big ol lad is at a disadvantage due to being a mammal. I generally prefer reptiles as I find them easier to read and look after. I'm also not a very big fan of the texture of short fur. Gorgonopsid looks like she'd require a lot of maintenance and the walks alone would kill me let alone the teeth. However I can appreciate a sturdy animal and I also would like to destroy a school.
Really puts the don't in heterodont
