"You could have been killed!"

“I know.”

Did Cassian think Bodhi should apologize for that? Rebels died every day, often with nothing gained for their sacrifice. Bodhi had risked his life, but it wasn’t anything that Cassian wouldn’t have done.

He’d stepped into the line of fire and came out the other side without a scratch, a small miracle on it’s own. Racing past a line of stormtropers while Cassian brought down the shields was all he’d done, and thanks to it he’d retrived the prototype for a new disruptor, now safely secured in Cassian’s bag, and it wouldbe reverse engineered as soon as they returned to base. Understanding the Empire’s new gruesome toy would help save lives against it’s carnage.

“What was I supposed to do? You were being shot at. You could have been killed too. I’m not apologizing.”

“I think I should be the one asking the questions here, Stranger.Maris was well acquainted with the raw emotion that was fear, so it was not difficult when - with only minimal effort on her part - she was able to reach out with the force and quickly recognized the distinct unease and worry that was so quickly coming over the man.
Now, tell me, who are you? What are you doing here? And…..” Her eyelids narrowed into observant slits as she trailed off for a second. “-Are you injured?

“M-my name is Bodhi. I crashed.” If she was Imperial she didn’t look it, but Bodhi had heard horror stories of fearsome warriors in the Empire’s employ who fought with lightsabers. An archaic weapon of old. Far from the Jedi of Bodhi’s childhood, these weapons were forces for evil. To admit he was with the Rebellion seemed unwise.

“I have a small wound, yes.” She didn’t seem human, at least not to Bodhi, and the possibility that she could smell him alone made lying seem unappealing. “It’s not too bad. I’m fine.”

You sure? I feel like I should be doing… somethin’.The thought of sitting and doing nothing has him wary as the tension of recent events trap his body in a constant state of vigilance. Ready to move, ready to fight, ready to survive. He’s always handled a crisis much better than the lull that follows it, always felt more competent in action as opposed to picking up the pieces. Where do they go from here?
It’s a quandary he’s not yet ready to grapple with, and with a brief shake of his head he pushes it to the back of his racing thoughts; for now, it might serve better to focus on the rescue they’ve been granted. Poe knows he’s not the only one who had believed with a sinking resignation that the rest of the galaxy had lost its hope, and turned its back on them. For this man to then show up, with provisions and relief for them all feels nothing short of MIRACULOUS.
Oh hey, you don’t have to do that. You’ve done more than enough - for all of us.Gratitude runs as deeply as his weariness; he’s half inclined to suggest that he ought to be bringing the famed older pilot food instead; to say that they all owe him big time would be severely understating things.

“You should be doing something. You should be resting.” Unwavering on his stance he gave Poe’s back a gentle nudge with his hand, urging him to move and sit. “Please. Tomorrow will come sooner than you think. It always does.”

Wringing his hands together, a betrayal of his pent-up energy, Bodhi looked around the room again. He’d been here before, he’d done this before. “Poe...look, you need the rest. We will be followed, we will be hunted. There are a few more cells that we’re trying to contact but nothing is certain. We’re not safe yet. I’m begging you, rest.”

Across the room, he spied Leia. She seemed so strong despite it all. Something had happened, what exactly Bodhi didn’t know but the mood was undeniable. She’d need good people beside her. “If not for my sake, rest for Leia.”

The intimate use of the General’s first name bellied the friendship they’d once had, a tool he hoped would sway Poe’s opinion.

“Uncle Bodhi!” Poe ran up to his psuedo relative and wrapped his tiny little arms around the elder man’s hip. “Can we check out your x-wing today?”
Image
“I’m uncle now?” Chuckling softly Bodhi was quick to pick up Poe, his prosthetic arm taking the brunt of the small boy's weight as he pulled him close. “Well, I don’t see why not. Does your mother know where you are?”

A defector. Much like the droid himself, Bodhi Rook once belonged to the Empire. As K-2SO understands, this makes them similar beings, in that they once pledged allegiance to one entity ( though the idea of “pledging” allegiance is not something the droid has done on his own ) before belonging to a different one entirely. In K-2′s case, he remains loyal to Captain Andor, and through him, the Rebellion. He is useful in this way. He helps people, as he has been told.
“I do believe our actions save more lives then they spend, don’t you think so?” K-2 isn’t sure, himself. He’s seen mass killings of other human beings - of other droids - in the name of self-prescribed “justice”. He has had moral code explained to him, and the droid has never been able to process the gray area associated with it. Sometimes, atrocities such as killing children were unspeakably horrible. Other times, they served as “necessary evils” that needed to be performed for the concept of “the greater good”.
“Killing people is bad. But killing the right people - that’s meant to be good. It’s a very odd system you humans have sorted out for yourselves. It’s a wonder you don’t walk around with constant headaches.”

“It’s...it’s not just humans.” The defense sounded weak to Bodhi’s ears, and he knew that K-2′s processors would most likely pick up on it too. Shamefaced he looked up from the small shuttle they’d been working on, the control panel in front of Bodhi looking half finished, and looked over at the imposing droid. “I...I mean, not everyone spends time thinking about the complexities of taking a life. Most people don’t kill at all.”

That statement was seeming less and less accurate as time went on though, people from all walks of life joined up and had the mantle of killer forced on them. “I think it all boils down to what you can live with.”

Bodhi wasn’t a killer, not really. He’d killed, sure, but always from behind the guns of a ship and even that was incredibly rare. Each time had been out of desperation, not some greater cause. Every time had been to save his friends. “I don’t know much about ethics. I do think we save people though. I have to think that.”

Did droids struggle to power down at night? Did thoughts keep them up?

@awakenedtower // bc we talked about this forever ago
Anger courses through her veins and bristles from her skin. She realizes that other people can read her—as she stalks down the hallway, fists clenched, a path clears, people jumping out of her way. Solo. She scoffed audibly, only drawing more attention to herself. How was he always getting himself into trouble? He was an incredibly pilot and had certainly proved himself useful to their cause, and yet he caused them just as much damage.
The scoundrel had gotten himself captured, no doubt for the ever growing bounty on the man’s head. Leia had approached Mothma, as well as many other of the leaders in order to set up a rescue and had been promptly shut down; they did not have the resources to spend right now. She had understood, of course. The young woman had been preparing her entire life for a leadership position but, she could not help but feel betrayal. Solo had become an integral part of their system; had helped save her life as well as help with the recent destruction of the Death Star.
It was decided nearly instantly that she would simply find her own resources. She needed a pilot, a good one—Klytus V was not an easy place to get to, and she knew exactly the man to approach; so long as he was up for the job.
The door to the medbay slid open, an older model medical droid stomped about, and she nods politely at the few medics the Alliance had. “ I’d like a moment alone with Lieutenant Rook, if that’s alright. She manages a smile and the room is cleared, leaving only the two of them.
“ —Lieutenant Rook.  She pauses, voice warm and smiling softly at the older man. “ How are you feeling?

While Bodhi was faring better physically than some of his comrades, Cassian still seems to suffer from the metal in his spine in a way Bodhi hoped he’d never understood, he was far from fit. Mental exercises helped keep him present, but his prosthetic was a work in progress, one he hid from view as the princess entered the medical wing. She could see it plainly, but somehow he felt she shouldn’t.

Sitting taller as she approached instinct took over, thankfully, and he found his way to his feet. The Empire hadn’t given him much outside of his flying skills, but it had given him a healthy respect for those who outranked him. With a small clearing of his throat, Bodhi smiled, set to answer as nerves mounted in his chest. “I’m well, your Highness. I mean, I’m getting better. I’m not quite well, but I can walk now. That’s...that’s good. Sorry.”

Swallowing hard he stood taller, his arm tucked to his side. With his rambling silenced he forced himself to look her in the eye. The contact lasted only a few seconds before he looked back at the worn durasteel floors again. “I...how are you?”

Was he permitted to ask? Was her question merely a formality before he was to be given his orders? Bodhi didn’t know but it sat strangely with him. No one had ever discussed talking to a princess before.

Bodhi bruises quite easily. These bruises rarely cause him any pain, and since even moderate pressure can cause some bruising he doesn’t realize it’s happening. Due to that he rarely treads lightly and often looks like he’s lost some fight in the last few weeks.

Bodhi loves it when people play with his hair. If it’s with a lover it makes him feel taken care of. If it’s with a friend it makes him happy that they want to spend time and even if it’s them trying to ruin his hair he’s genuinely curious as to what they’ll do. If it’s with children he jokes it makes him feel included, but he just likes seeing kids happy and if that means he’s rocking sloppy braids then he’s fine with it.

17. How trusting is your character?

Bodhi insists that he isn’t overly trusting in most cases. He’d seen enough things to know that trust, if unfounded, was dangerous. That doesn’t stop it from seeping into his bones. He’ll do everything he can to keep people at bay but like radiation, it seems to leach into his bones.

18. Would your character be able to kill a stranger to save themselves or a loved one?

That depends. If someone is trying to attack him, he could kill in self-defense, but if it was a more abstract setting he’d struggle. He couldn’t kill an innocent bystander if it meant he lived. He’s proud to say he’s not that much of a coward. He could, however, kill to save a loved one.

Bodhi loves children. As a younger man, he was often the one who was left to tend to neighbor kids and would babysit for money. He’s really good with children too.

He wants to be a father, but doubts he ever will be and is content to be a cool uncle to some friend’s kids.

When couples in the Rebellion started having kids Bodhi loved entertaining them during meetings.

Bodhi’s goggles are bifocal. The upper half is amplifying to improve his vision out of his viewport and for fine technical work, and his lower half is a modest amplification so he can see his controls. They’re slightly colour tinted to improve his vision and how much light he has.

His eyes look massive when he wears them and walking is difficult so he often only wears them while flying.
