Do you know what it’s like to be trapped? How could you possibly know? It’s the most hellish, choking, constricting feeling in the world. I scream with every bone in my body to get out of it. My mind cries to get out of it. But I can’t. Not now. One day I will, though. I’ll want you around on that day, friend. I’ll need you around on that day.

You have to want to listen to it, and then you can hear it. It has a strange, beautiful texture. It doesn’t always talk. Sometimes—sometimes it cries, and you can hear the pain of the world in it. It hurts to listen to it then. But you have to.

danny blinks, reclaiming a broody gaze, && adverts his attention to words LONG unspoken.

levi-----his own brother’s name sans the mild blip in pronunciation. they are nothing alike. levi, his levi, is fragile; paler than the winter’s moon && fluctuating between life && death. his face drains of vitality at the thought. the boy standing at his feet, struggling to unearth the instinct to daven, however, danny is inclined to believe he’s OLDER than he lets on.

yes, that’s right. close your eyes, the words will come to you.

🔍+ what's your favourite line/passage or story in the torah

Danny pulled his upper lip back in contemplation. Every scripture, verse and line of the Torah had been ingrained in his brain through meticulous study, but he had never troubled himself with choosing a ‘favorite’ until now. It felt odd to hold one in higher esteem than the others.

Eyes flickering upward and assuming an air of ease, Danny spoke:

The words fell from his tongue fruitfully: rich, tonal and laced with notes of sweetness. The significance of this passage had only recently revealed itself to him, once distant in the mind of a lonely child. Now – now, perhaps, in the sincerest sense, he had his own David, and the relevancy of their relationship had become prominent.

He was truly thankful for that.

Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself. Saul took him that day and did not let him return to his father’s house. Then Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, with his armor, including his sword and his bow and his belt. So David went out wherever Saul sent him, and prospered; and Saul set him over the men of war.

❝ Dude, I haven’t been to temple in like… don’t even make me answer that with an accurate measurement. We’ll just say a long time. ❞ His dad’s not happy with him right now. Wherever he is, Levi can feel his displeasure for his son’s current stance on their religion. ❝ You know I’m rusty. Be gentle. Explain it to me and I’m sure a few bells’ll start ringing at some point. ❞

      SHUL is a sacred place.

danny grimaces at the use of temple but otherwise carries on with his explanation. chassidic services are all he knows && despite his ties , he craves to witness the rituals of those outside the community.

of course he doesn’t dare. reading is one thing , but DOING-----an entirely different ballpark.

reserved for the holy. it is where we worship adonai and bless the bread on shabbos.
