Remembering that Derek Hale was supposed to be 19 fucks me up for real because he's just a baby, holy shit, and it almost would've been better that way, especially if we didn't find out at first because he does come off as older, with the car, the jacket, the tattoo, the attitude, it all makes him seem older than he is, and if it seems like that to us, it definitely has to be that way for Scott and Stiles, imagine the shock of realising he's only just older than they are, he can't even buy alcohol and he's in a life-and-death struggle with a murderous Alpha and a cult of hunters who want to kill him for, uh, *checks notes* existing.

My headcanon is always the 19 year old Derek for this exact reason.

When you’re 16, 19 seems older and smarter. But from the perspective of even a 25 year old, my god, they’re all children!

It gives a different context to Derek squatting in the train station. And a different context to his actions in season 2 and 3.

And it explains Derek’s gravitating towards people that are essentially his peers, but also likely to see him as an authority figure as well, make sense. Yes, there is also a subtler idea to the headcanon that Derek is socially regressed, but Teen Wolf isn’t a show that lends itself to subtlety.

stating to think there’s an inverse correlation between how good media is and how easily fandomizable it is 😁

good media should make you stare at wall for 2 hours instead of immediately starting shippings wars and coffeeshop au and slowburn fics

no no you’re not wrong but also

there’s a reason for this.

My personal theory is that if Media is REALLY good, there isn't really... space, if you will for fans to add or change perspectives on it. Too dense, too complete. Like how coral won't grow on plastic because it's too smooth

Whereas some half-baked hot garbage has got ALL KINDS of plot holes, incomplete characterization, warped timelines, missing worldbuilding and other Spaces for fans to colonize, like coral growing on a sunken battleship.

And then if a series just sucks too much, it's not fun to interact with at all, and people won't fandomize it because it's toxic. Like how coral won't grow on sunken piles of burnt-out tires.

I call this the Fandom Barrier-Reef Theory.
