The layers of anne’s “if im not what i was then and im not what i’ve become” speech to max…this moment of vulnerability tying them together where anne is really actively desiring someone for the first time in her life. and what she’s sharing is that her selfhood is forever warped by jack killing her rapist for her and the tie of obligation/devotion that created. But she’s sharing it to max whose loyalty to her stems from anne . killing her rapists for her. obviously not directly analogous bc max has a sense of self before and after. but i wonder if anne even really registers that max initiated their relationship to protect her own safety and interests.

the fact that i literally can't picture silver killing flint and then standing there or cradling or sitting next to or just walking away from his Body is so weird & powerful, like obviously you can't know for certain that he did or didn't kill flint but that's irrelevant here. this is like the scene in season 3 where flint tells silver his history with the hamiltons except! we aren't allowed to see that moment of intimacy, we don't know what it looked or sounded or felt like we only see the aftermath. same with the missing silvermadi sex scene, we only really see the aftermath. silver never lets us see these moments of intimacy unlike flint who is always bared to us except for these scenes with silver, when he becomes known by someone else and then unknown again

you can see how annoyed vane is when his new quartermaster is like "yeah idk how defending miss guthrie would be beneficial to us". vane is like god i miss jack. he let me make decisions with my dick all the time

I did a John Silver multi-media piece last year with a quote, paint, marker, and ink. Well, I finally decided to do one for Flint! It's also going to be multi-media with similar materials. I've got a lot of cardboard (from catfood containers) stored for art-making purposes, so the first thing I did was make a canvas! I taped together 4 pieces of cardboard, then glued another layer of cardboard atop these for the 'base.' Next, I did two layers of printer paper to create an even surface. Lastly, I took two larger sketchbook pages and glued those down. Base canvas done!

the reading of miranda as The Sensible One in contrast to james & thomas just really falls flat for me. miranda's behaviour is not really any less reckless than theirs (she initiates the affair with james despite his hesitation; she writes to the governor in boston asking for a pardon without telling him, & nearly gets him killed; she starts shouting at peter after a man has pulled a gun on her for less in his house). what she is is less radical. idk if it stems from that (any kind of radical politics is necessarily less sensible, less achievable, less serious) or the desire to pigeonhole female characters as The One With The Braincell. either way i think it's a much less interesting read of her character.
