I’m at the tsunami episodes part of my 911 rewatch and god, I just can’t get over that last scene in 3x03. They really went there and had Buck monologging about being lost at sea, only to be interrupted by Eddie and Chris. Then we beautiful delivery of the “there is no one in this world I trust with my son more than you,” and Buck’s disbelieving awe-filled smile he only gets for Eddie. And then BOOM let’s end it with Buck picking that same monologue back up with, “a few choice words can make the difference,” blah blah, “to be seen, to be found. And isn’t that all we’re really searching for.” ALL WE ARE SEARCHING FOR. MY GOD ITS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. HOW THE FUCK WAS THAT SEASON 3 AND WE STILL AREN’T CANON?!?

Not this time. Of course Buck trusted Eddie’s abilities as a firefighter and he must’ve known as much, but this wasn’t about that. “It’s… I don’t know Eddie, something’s wrong.” He pressed, but Eddie just scoffed and pulled out of Buck’s hand so he could turn to face him fully and put his own hands onto Buck’s shoulders. “Look around, Buck. Everything is wrong. Having a sense of doom in a situation like this is normal and you know that.” He leveled him with a questioning gaze and Buck nodded a little. “We’re just gonna have to do our best, alright?” Or During a search and rescue, Eddie disappears without a trace, leaving Buck to grapple with the sudden possibility of a life without him.
