trying to make sense
of existence
after someone leaves
is like tugging at shadows
as they shapeshift
across the ocean floor
—suddenly nothing
looks the same anymore.
until kindred souls
reach out & gently
stroke a broken heart
back to life
with sights & sounds
& shared experiences
a pre-traumatic mind
would never have
contemplated before.

exotic beauty

takes flight from the soil,

unreal in its depiction,

delicate & graceful, vestal

mystique setting her apart,

desired icon of romanticism,

elegantly unique, a blush of

pink perfection sustained

by coils of medusa hair,

flotsam, probing, wafting

adrift on fragrant air,

an inflorescent pearl

awaiting completion,

submerged in ambrosial

auras of tender care.

nature wears her mystery

like the cloak of an ancient deity,

leading a dance of

wild abandon

outside my window

she casts each season’s

bounty to the wind, mantle aflame

through a dreamy lens

ignited by a shining

kiss of light—lavish intimacy

tentatively bestowed by sunset’s

cascading emanation

surrounded by a state

of perpetual motion,

the outside observer

in a microcosm

of special relativity,

velocity is meaningless

in the universal continuum,

where five more minutes

at the speed of light

in a billion different lifetimes

is all we’ll ever need.

Golden crown and mottled

blue plumage, the colour morph

of a Pale-headed Rosella—

transports me to a distant skyline,

where gilded clouds

pause to catch their

breath on a sunbeam

laser-lit horizon.

To my garden, the pastel

shaded parrot pays a

fleeting visit, skimming

the fence line as it leaves

for places where earth’s

crowded spaces fade away,

beyond yonder’s

jet propelled slipstream.

spellbound in transit through twilight’s gloam

a waning moon

basks in blooms of ethereal light over sky-meadows sown with rose petal clouds

woven in lore with dusk laden waters her reflection temporarily dissolves beneath sunset’s silky coverlet of atmospheric flowers

The future was

always meant to be

an invention of

evolution,

species of every kind

will in deference

either adapt

or cease to exist.

The mechanism

of carcinisation—nature

will get her way,

& there’s nothing

all the wealth, power

or ego in the universe

can do to stop her.

where does it come from this transitional insight? a twin sense awareness of mirror-lily relativity

perhaps it’s January’s gift grown from a seed —a luminous vision of biformed beauty,

flourishing hope that dormant inspiration continues to bloom.

I’ve been busy

crafting holiday gifts—

sculpting delicate hearts

from air dry clay;

reflecting on friendships

near & far—

acquaintances who left

& soulmates who stayed;

tying satin bows &

stringing wooden beads;

painting shimmering stars

to hang on glittering trees;

there’s much to do

before another year

recedes from view…

& next December

comes round again.

time is frequently lost

in an habitual hinterland,

with visions of the horizon

beyond the lone tree,

an infinity of nothing

in far away skies,

staring out through

a glass house with a view

towards the future,

a barricade of barbed wire

& distant mountains to climb.

Apathy is the plague in

paradise, watch your step

everything is different now,

wave after wave eroding

the foundations of the past,

when the only way out

is to make a fresh start,

scan the horizon on any

lonely beach at dusk, where

both shadows & silver linings

disappear without a trace &

take comfort in the thought

that neither darkness nor light

were ever destined to last.

nurturing breathing space

in littoral landscapes

immersed in spontaneous reflections

October’s refuge

from unnatural onslaught

soulcast deep in search of a cure

or—that ever-elusive compromise

sensations immortalised

by the tranquil turquoise waters

of Monet’s pond
