“How do ya—” Osamu raises his left hand closer for inspection, eyes and voice a marvel. “How’dya get so close to the edge but don’t touch skin?”

You lightly blow on his freshly painted black nails, cupping his wrist to make sure the paint dried glossy flat without any air bubbles. Veins and knuckles, hands crafted everyday at work to make onigiris, flattening and kneading throughout the day, sprinkling spices and clasping hands to bow at customers when they enter.

When you look up at him again, he’s looking at you; grin and eyes softer.

“You look pretty,” you tell him. Because it’s true— his eyes, the shape of his face, the smile that stretches across his skin. The look he gives you, hunched a little, tired from a day’s work, but always ready to do anything with you.

“Prettier,” he says, fights, using his freshly painted left hand— “‘Samu!” — to move your chin until he rests his forehead against yours, closing his eyes and breathing you in like this.

Without breaking the noise of crickets chirping in dewy grass, the night soft and blanketing, you nose him, murmuring quietly.

“If you smudge the nice way I painted your nails, I’m killing you, Miya.”

When he laughs, pressing kisses into yours in distraction and affection, he tastes like sweet peppermint and spices, milky ways and soft gestures.

notes: okay so this is the first time i'm writing for kyōtani so i really don't have his characterization down yet pls forgive meeee,, also i added iwa tho he's not a pro volleyball player bc we love dad iwa here —fluff!

❊ KAGEYAMA’s eyes widen in shock as he sees his son topple over from his seat on the floor, rubbing the spot that the ball hit on his arm. he immediately stops what he's doing and runs over to his kid and checks for injuries. but his son only shakes his head and smiles up at him, "i'm fine papa," he mumbles as tears well up in his little eyes. kageyama furrows his eyebrows, seeing his son keeping his emotions to himself as to not to distract him and his work made his heart sink.

"you know what?" he speaks softly, holding his son's hand and helping him up from the floor, "coach said papa can go home early, wanna get some ice cream on the way back?" he offers and his son smiles up at him widely, tears suddenly replaced by excited nods and giggles.

❊ TSUKKI drops everything he's doing and immediately scoops his daughter up from the floor. he cradles her onto his shoulder and shushes her cries, patting her back gently to soothe her. something sour in him stirs as he internally blames himself for not keeping watch on his daughter when you had entrusted her to him. he further blames himself as he thinks about how he could have skipped a day of practice to watch over his kid.

taking her favorite dinasour plushie from her seat, he excuses himself from practice and takes his daughter out of the gym. he continues to cradle her and soothe her sniffles as he whispers, "it's papa's fault, papa's sorry." and he swears, he'll never take his eyes away from her again.

❊ KYŌTANI seemingly growls under his breath as he stomps towards his teammate whose serve just happened to hit his son's leg. he grits his teeth as curses find themselves on the tips of his tounge when he hears his son sniffle. and it was as if something hit him as he stops in his tracks, shakes his head and instead runs over to his son.

"i'm sorry, so sorry." he whispers as he takes his son into his arms, soothing and massaging his leg. he had almost forgotten what was important at the heat of the moment, he had almost let his anger get the best of him again. but he knows that as long as his son calls for him, he will come back and be there for him.

❊ IWAIZUMI jumps back in surprise as a volleyball comes flying directly towards his daughter's arm.

"oh shit!" he exclaims as he squats down beside her, checking whether she got hurt. but his daughter only rubs her arm and looks up at her father, "dada, no bad words!" she exclaims, placing her little finger on his lips.

and he only nods obediently, zips his lips animatedly, and kisses her arm to "make the ouchy go away".

It hadn’t taken you long to realize just how dark the evening had become. The chilly evening air prickled against your skin as you stood, what seemed like, the middle of nowhere. Your eyes kept hold of the festival lights that were a little distance away, still close enough for you to be seen by people, but far enough that you could feel your heart racing just a bit faster with every sound in the bushes behind you. Was there a reason why you were supposed to wait here?

You considered asking the group chat you had with the boys, or maybe messaging Daichi since he was supposed to be your next date. But if the two of you were going to walk home, why would he want to meet you here?

The sound of a branch cracking behind you had you nearly jumping out of your skin, eyes widening as you found a casually dressed Tsukishima suddenly standing next to you. His hands were in his pockets, eyes not even looking at you, like he had just so happened to walk here and hadn’t meant to come see you at all.

“Hi,” was all he said after a moment, his shoulders stiffening next to him.

You blinked, letting out a laugh at just how awkward he seemed, “Tsukishima! You came! Is this my surprise?” You asked excitedly, beaming up at him. Had Mr. I-don’t-care-about-festivals come all this way to hang out with you too?

“Ya I guess. Don’t get all excited or something, I’m not here for you,” he grumbled, but his eyes flickered over you and you could see the rosiness of his cheeks, even in the lack of light.

“Oh are you meeting someone else then? Should I just leave you alone?” You teased, starting to walk away.

  • He's probably one of the haikyuu!! characters who would be standing next to you while throughout your delivery. Whispering words of encouragement, placing light kisses on your forehead, and of course allowing you to hold his hand.
  • Honestly, he was sweating just like you. Keiji's trying his best to keep calm and set aside the scary informations he have read online and on the books he have read from your first trimester.
  • You were crushing his hand for hours. He could feel his hand throbbing in pain, but all of that fades when he heard the tiny, but ear-piercing wail of your little girl. His lips were quivering, tears trailing down his cheeks while looking at his tiny, and bloody little girl.
  • Keiji will mumble 'thank you' to your ear while showering your face with featherlight kisses. You smile at him before kissing him back. You'll definitely tease him, lifting your still weak arm to dry his tear-stained cheeks.
  • The two of you would giggle before the nurse places your newborn baby on the top of your chest. A healthy baby girl, that resembles you and him. He uses his forefinger to softly caress her soft skin. It was so gentle as if one wrong move and he'll break her.
  • Then, a nurse called his attention, asking if he would like to 'bond' with his little girl as they clean you up and wheel you in your private room. Basically, the said bonding is just him, sitting on a couch, while his little girl lies on the top of his bare chest.
  • I can't explain it clearly, but I've seen it once in TROS. When William's little brother was born.
  • He's whispering sweet things on the top of her hair. He also used his pointer finger to try if she'll hold his finger. Oh, and when she did, he cried! The bags under his eyes were puffy when he came to your room. You were asleep when he entered, but that didn't stop him from complimenting and thanking you for giving birth to your little Emiko.
  • 15/10 would try again.

  • Kei was scared of holding Etsuko for the first time.
  • She looks too small compared to his tall built. Hell! Her tiny hands could barely hold his finger. You tried reasoning out with him, saying that he wouldn't hurt her, or she wouldn't fall from his arm when he carries her. BUT HOW SURE ARE YOU?
  • “Kei-kun, it's impossible that you'd drop her.”
  • He'll pout. “How sure are you?” he asked while turning away from you and your daughter. “I've almost dropped nii-san's baby before. How sure are you that same thing wouldn't happen to our. . .” His gaze soften while staring at you and your sleeping little girl. “. . .baby,” he breathe out.
  • “Sit beside us, then.” You poking Etsuko's chubby cheeks while looking at your husband. He glances at the door before staring back at you. He purses his lips while playing with his hands. You smiled at his cute antics.
  • He huffs before lowering the side rail. “I hope you're correct that I wouldn't drop—OH GOD.”
  • As soon as he sat next to you, you handed Etsuko to him. She cooed before nuzzling her cheek against his chest. He placed his hand under her bum while the other rests on her tiny back.
  • You swear you've seen his lips quivering, but I doubt that he'll admit it. Come on, it's Tsukki we're talking about here. He wouldn't admit it, but he's really about to cry while holding little Etsuko close to him.
  • You wanted to tease him non-stop, but it was as if he was trapped inside a bubble with no one else besides him and the charming newborn. He'll use his thumb to caress her cheek and Etsuko stirs in her sleep.
  • Kei was lowkey panicking, but when he felt the warmth of your hand resting on top of his, the fear of dropping little Etsuko disappeared.
  • “Thank you,” he whispers while looking at you with fondness. “For being a wonderful wife,” he kisses your forehead gently. “And for giving birth to Etsuko.”
  • Please, more soft!Tsukki!
  • Anyway, after overcoming that fear of dropping little Etsuko, he'll probably time how long his brother or his friends would hold her before taking her away from them.

there is absolutely no reason behind me writing this other than the fact that i’m sad and need a tsukishima
  • ngl he was SUPER nervous when he found out he was going to be a dad because for one, he knows he’s not exactly the sweetest lamppost on the street and he’s insecure about being able to take care of a child right
  • but you know for a fact that despite how salty tsukishima tends to be, he has a good heart and will be an amazing father
  • you: it’s okay, shrek was also nervous about having a kid in the third movie
  • tsukishima: did you just compare me to shrek??
  • i’m sorry i’ll stop adding shrek references to everything
  • he’s also thrown off a bit by your pregnancy because now he realizes he has to be a bit more attentive to your needs
  • most of the time he’s just like ‘??? are you ??? okay ?? can i ?? help ???’
  • tsukishima really wants to be able to help but you also have to explain directly what you need help with
  • after a while he starts to get into the motion of things. he’ll be up early to make you some tea to help with your morning sickness 
  • one time he came home with your favorite ice cream flavor because he anticipated you would be craving it and you almost cried
  • tsukishima does have his little soft moments with you though. sometimes he’ll be spooning while you sleep and place a protective hand over your belly
  • surprisingly, he’s really calm when you start to go into labor. in the cab ride on the way to the hospital he’s holding your hand and helping you with your breathing
  • he’s still really calm up until they wheel you over to the emergency room and tsukishima immediately erupts in a panic
  • he’ll be in the bathroom washing his face over and over again because he doesn’t know what to do before calling akiteru and yamaguchi
  • they already both know what’s up and try to keep tsukishima calm up until the nurse comes out to say that both you and your baby are fine
  • inside the room, he sees you already tired but still somehow sitting up to nurse your newborn daughter 
  • he doesn’t ask to hold her but you can see it on his face so you offer to let him and the look on his face is just so soft when his daughter wraps her little hand around his fingers
  • excuse me i’m just going to go cry for a bit
  • tsukishima would be a very responsible type of dad. he’s very good at remembering to wash the feeding bottles and pack extra diapers when you go out
  • also: DINOSAUR PLUSHIES
  • this makes me uwu so hard but he’d probably buy a bunch of dinosaur plushies and baby books for your daughter
  • you: kei, that’s their fifth plushie already
  • tsukki: this is a triceratops it’s DIFFERENT
  • ngl there are times when he’ll have to bring your daughter to work and he’ll come into the museum with a baby carrier on him and everything
  • at first he’s kind of embarrassed and then he’ll notice his co-workers snickering and shoot them a Death Glare
  • tsukki: is your masculinity too fragile for you to even bring your kid to work? pathetic
  • that shuts them up
  • he’s not really the playful type BUT tsukishima is definitely the kind of dad who’d read stories to your kid
  • sometimes you’ll pass by your daughter’s bedroom and catch him lying on the bed, reading her a book and you can’t help but stand by and watch him
  • he’ll arrange the dino plushies all around her after tucking her in
  • because tsukishima doesn’t mind bringing your daughter to work after school, the museum eventually becomes sort of like her playground
  • it’s so cute everyone who works in the museum knows her and she just spends the rest of the day going around the exhibits
  • OMG FATHER-DAUGHTER BONDING WHILE TSUKISHIMA ORGANIZES EXHIBITS
  • you’ll often pass by the museum after work to find your husband and daughter fixing an exhibit together and she’s asking a million questions and tsukishima’s patiently answering all of them
  • the three of you LOVE having family movie nights or playing board games together 
  • there was this one time your daughter and tsukishima were conspiring against you but then at the last minute she betrayed him and won the entire game
  • you: kei, are you crying?
  • tsukki: i’m just really proud
  • he’s also the type of dad to tease his kid a lot because he can and he loves to bring up embarrassing moments all the time
  • tsukki: hEY REMEMBER WHEN YOU–
  • your daughter: daaaAAAAD
  • generally, tsukishima is quite stern but oh my god does he teach your daughter questionable things 
  • you: i know she stole your doll but you can’t just call people the b-word
  • your daughter: motherfucker doesn’t start with a ‘b’
  • tsukki: *is bent-over from laughing too hard*
  • you’ll be lecturing her over something that she did but your husband is just standing behind you mouthing ‘you did good’ while flashing a thumbs-up
  • tsukishima does try to raise you to be a morally responsible citizen but he’s also lowkey a crackhead
  • tsukki: sometimes, the best thing you can do is simply forgive and forget
  • your daughter: okay dad
  • tsukki: but other times, you can just secretly drive by their house and throw eggs at night
  • you: kEI
  • nvm you’re a crackhead too it’s why tsukishima married you
  • *insert shot of the three of you in a car, throwing eggs at the house of the person who wronged your daughter*

✿ Let’s start with some normal Tsukki personality traits, shall we?

✿ Tsukishima is smart but he is also very hard working.

✿ If you have finally earned his respect, he will be loyal and trustworthy towards you.

✿ But of course you’ve won his respect since y’all are dating and you’re pregnant with his baby.

✿ Okay but like Tsukki as a dad though smurk

✿ Okay okay pregnancy

✿ Since our Tsundere Tsukki has absolutely no emotions, when you told him I feel like he went blank.

✿ Like he said, “I fucking swear to god Y/N if your fucking pranking me for some TikTok I will fucking divorce you.”

✿ And then when he figured out [with his big ass brain] that you ARE NOT joking for some TikTok he was kind of surprised

✿ ANYWAYS my point is that if you get moody and snappy don’t think that his attitude will change, he’ll probably just snap back at you so be prepared

✿ Ahhhhh childbirth

✿ What a horrible wonderful thing to go through.

✿ Okay the moment your water broke and you called him, that’s when he went into a full panic.

✿ Why? Oh only because he was at WORK and you were at home. Take note that the museum he works in is like a 15-minute drive WITHOUT traffic :D

✿ So you're packing your things, you calm and collected and OUT OF NOWHERE he fucking stormed into your household like a madman

✿ You quite shocked because Tsukishima Kei, the logical, rational human being you knew, loved, and married was gone. Nowhere to be found.

✿ You have to calm him the fuck down and reassure him that you're fine, the baby’s fine, and that you're simply packing for the hospital

✿ After he calls you an “idi0t” for laughing at him and telling him to “calm the fuck down, you did this to me so deal with it” you guys are finally off to the hospital to give birth to your baby! Yay :D

✿ Okay moving on to labor... once again, good luck :)

✿ During labor, Tsukishima is his normal, calm, and rational self. Finally

✿ He will not snap at you since we’ll you know, you’re giving birth to his CHILD and among other reasons he loves u sm

✿ If you want to hold his hands, he’ll let you

✿ If you don’t want anyone to touch you, he won’t touch you

✿ As your screaming in pain, pushing out his child, he’ll peck you on the forehead frequently to remind you that he’s with you and that you're going to be okay

✿ When a baby’s cry fills the room, he is relieved

✿ He looked down at you, giving you a final kiss and tell you how proud and grateful he is that the birth of your child went well

✿ And, oh god, when he finally holds his child for the first time...

✿ He is happy. He is content and he feels all the problems in the world slowly slip away for a short amount of time

✿ I don’t think Tsukishima will cry because he’s not so good with emotion but he will show his happiness through the content smile on his face whilst he’s looking down at his baby.

✿ The one he created with you. Oh and he loves you so much

✿ And when the child opens its eyes, revealing the same eyes as Tsukishima’s, he is beyond satisfied

✿ Tsukki is very comfortable as a parent. He easily copes with the responsibilities and even has a schedule

✿ Though because we all know he’s not good with emotions, when the child grows older, you will have to be your child’s emotional support because Tsukishima will struggle at that section of parenting

✿ God help you if your child has Tsukishima’s personality traits. You’re dealing with two little sarcastic shit heads.

✿ As your child grows older, it starts asking questions like a normal child

✿ One day your six-year-old baby walked up to you and Tsukki’s study [for when you work at home] and simply inspected the two of you. You were busy typing furiously on your computer while Tsukki was reading a book with a pair of headphones on hold habits die hard. Your baby walked up to you and poked your leg for attention. You immediately stopped with all your typing and look down at the child, who by the way, was a complete replica of your husband. “Momma?” You put your laptop aside and picked up your child, gently putting him/her on your lap. Before your child started speaking, he/she gently touched Tsukishima’s shoulder, next to you, to get his attention. He yanked off his headphones and replied with “Hmm?” Literally out of nowhere your child asked “Where do babies come from?” You had to bit your lip to keep yourself from laughing due to Tsukishima’s reaction. After that, he stood up and left, leaving you to do all the explaining. Good luck, AGAIN

✿ When your child goes to middle school, he secretly hopes that he/she picks volleyball as a club activity but will never, ever admit it lol

✿ But if he/she doesn’t pick volleyball, he won’t mind, he’ll still support him/her endless

✿ Tsukki is very strict on grades so, since a young age, your child is taught how to work and is very well disciplined

✿ In overall, Tsukki loves you and your child very much and is great support during pregnancy and a good parent.
