"Zionism" is to the Left what "Woke" is to the Right--a minority's own term conceived of in relation to the prejudice they face, taken by the majority, twisted, and used as a pejorative, rather than come to terms with the bigotry that originally created it.

no. Zionism is a political ideology used to justify the illegal colonization, occupation, and genocide of Palestinians. it’s really NOT the same.

you are wrong. i suggest you educate yourself. There are many different forms of Zionism, and it is entirely possible to be Zionist and also support Palestinians' right to homeland.

Additionally, it is simply fact that Jewish people are indigenous to the Levant. You cannot fit this into a settler-colonialism model because that is not the reality.

Like I said, Zionism is to the Left what Woke is to the Right.

I remember reading this study, in fact--and I also remember that certain "antizionist" groups called it "racist science" because it went against their ideological dogma that Jews have no ties to the Levant.

There's been several studies into the ancestry of Ashkenazi Jews and most agree that, at the very least, approximately 40% to 50% of their genetic markers are Middle Eastern in origin. The exact number will of course vary, as it would with any diaspora, because of intermingling with other populations.

It's worth noting that Arabs are not indigenous, insofar as being the "original" people to live in these lands, to most of the Middle East and North Africa. They originate from the Arabian peninsula that today comprises countries like Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and Oman.

They conquered the Middle East from the Sassanian and Byzantine empires in around the 7th century CE. This is centuries after the Kingdom of Israel, Kingdom of Judah, and the writings in the Hebrew Bible.

The idea that the Middle East belongs exclusively to Arabs is as nationalistic and racist as saying that Europe belongs exclusively to Caucasians. Neither is historically true.

Which ties back to my original post quite neatly.

Something that also seems lost on supposed "activists" (I would love to see these same "activists" try living under the oppression of Hamas) is that Zionism does not mean defending the actions of current or past Israeli governments.

Zionism is the movement for the self-determination and statehood for the Jewish people in their ancestral homeland, the land of Israel. The vast majority of Jews around the world feel a connection or kinship with Israel, whether or not they explicitly identify as Zionists, and regardless of their opinions on the policies of the Israeli government.

It simply acknowledges the right to self-determination, a right which is enshrined within the Charter of the United Nations, for the Jewish people. You can even be a Zionist and still support Palestinian statehood.

But if you're arguing for Palestinian statehood and for Palestinian self-determination, whilst simultaneously arguing against the existence of Israel and Jewish self-determination, then you're being hypocritically antisemitic.

For all of my US followers for whom general public official election day is coming up (Nov. 7th) PLEASE do not become so disillusioned with the current state of higher power politicians that you skip out on voting for local offices; off year and local elections are already critically unemphasized but these are the people who have the most direct power over jails, police, school curriculum, etc. Do not let your grief be weaponized as a distraction from also continuing to fight police brutality, queer and bipoc censorship in schools, bodily autonomy, housing inequality, etc, on the smaller scale battlefields where every vote truly does count

It can be so frustrating to vote in small local elections because info is harder to find, but if you take the time to google vote411 and go to their website, get your personal ballot, and then look up the candidates, you will always find that two people are running for a local school board, and one is a lovely person who has slowly been effecting positive change for three decades and the other is a real estate broker who wants more money. And then you have the power to vote against the money asshole and for the nice person in a race that can genuinely go down to a handful of votes. Feels awesome, man. Vote out the bitch who voted against reasonable COVID measures in your local high school 3 years ago.

Anyways remember that time that JK Rowling, who has never spoken to an indigenous American person in her whole life, was like "but what if the Natives had four schools and they were also bloodthirsty savages who started the residential schools with their fictional beings as their mascots and Christians weren't actually at fault" right at the time when we started getting some traction around getting recognition for the heinous crimes that were the mass graves of children, then went on to make a whole spin-off franchise in America using that """lore""" and rhetoric, where the one wizard guy who tried to stop the Holocaust from happening was villainized and played by Johnny Depp (who played Tonto in the Lone Ranger and said he was going to buy the Black Hills and Wounded Knee and "give it back to Lakota people" then never did that at all) and who she later defended as saying he wasn't a domestic abuser because she believed him over a woman who has since been proven to be telling the truth several times over?

The woman's a violent colonizer.

Hello <3 I deleted this original post but in light of the fact that there's a Twilight TV series reboot/spinoff in the making let's talk about how these women are one and the same in their actions against indigenous American people!

Stephenie Meyer is a Mormon with Mormon views. Mormons have extremely racist ideology embedded within their religious texts about indigenous Americans and Jews - that indigenous people are quite literally the Actual Real Jews (I'm mixed, this is truly insane cult rhetoric). Through the decades the LDS church has successfully funded, advocated, and carried out forced conversion and cultural genocide. THEY ARE THE ONES ACTIVELY TRYING TO OVERTURN ICWA, THE INDIAN CHILD WELFARE ACT.

Are you seeing the pattern here? Are you seeing the undercurrent of antisemitism and anti-indigenous racist imperialism?

Get rid of your attachment to these franchises, stop making it a question of what media you will replace it with, get involved with US. We want your allyship and understanding more than these white supremacists even want to think about your humanhood.

because i love y’all, i’m sharing my family’s recipe for apple tea (traditional fall/winter drink in west asia, turkey, and many areas of the balkans)

it’s like a more delicate version of apple cider and i basically live off of this stuff when the weather starts to cool!

Apple Tea (for two)

  • 1 large apple or 2 small, shredded (you can use a cheese grater)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2-3 pc clove (optional)
  • honey to taste
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice (add at end)
  • green tea (optional! some versions call for green tea but i actually prefer it without. up to you!)

throw it all in a pot and let it simmer on a low temperature for an hour or so. while it’s simmering, it will also make your home smell delicious! (if you make it with green tea, add the tea at the end, about five minutes before taking it off the heat so the flavor doesn’t become bitter from oversteeping). strain into your cups and enjoy hot.

end result:

If Taylor Swift used her power for good she would be such a great stochastic terrorist. She would post on Instagram "Hey guys, Tay here. Just wanted to say that whoever delivers me the head of Ron DeSantis on a platter will get free Eras Tour tickets. #ShadeNeverMadeAnybodyLessGay." It would be at her doorstep in two hours.

I... what.

I just don’t think Meghan has a leg here. She is a princess, no one wants to hear from her on strikes.

Meghan was a working actress for decades. She was a working royal for 18 months. She benefits massively from her show reaching syndication. She stands to lose depending on how Netflix negotiated residuals for Suits with it being out of cable reruns now.

Meghan knows what it’s like to scrimp and scrap for years. She was a working actress doing bit parts her whole 20s!

The fact is that honestly if she didn’t marry Harry, Suits might have been her biggest hit and again residuals would have a huge impact on her. She completely has a leg to stand on joining this fight. Just like she had one speaking up for BLM.

In fact, A-Listers NEED to be using their spotlight to highlight the strike and the working actors who make up the bulk of Hollywood who don’t make millions per movie. It’s important that people like Meryl Streep or Jennifer Lawrence or Matt Damon or Margot Robbie join the strike. A-list talent walking off set and refusing to take part in press and promo is part of what gives the Union huge bargaining power even if those elite actors are not necessarily hurting financially. But also, a lot of A-Listers also have huge stakes in the fight because it’s also about control of their image and their long term financial profit, too.

Meghan is a producer now with a new production company. If she wants top talent on her productions she needs to be ten toes down in solidarity, too.

Meghan was/is SAG. The Union protected her as a working actress, she can use the outrageous spotlight on her to stand in solidarity and to support working actors.

A lot of people don't seem to know that a bunch of older stars end up in poverty. Fame is fleeting. The glamorous role often doesn't pay as well as you think.

Tales of Angela Landsbury insisting ageing stars get roles on Murder She Wrote so they could retain their medical insurance.

Every worker needs unions. Bit-part workers need A-lister solidarity. Being an A-lister doesn't last forever.

Reblog because the belief that actors generally are rich is utter rubbish. They deserve the same kind of recognition as other professions. Fame does NOT equal money.
