As a part of the LGBTQ+ community who’s been discriminated and invalidated my whole life, this is so damn important to me, I’m so proud of him and his words.

I can’t stop crying.

Felt like saying this again because it's bothering me immensely and yet Twitter loves to get off at the thought of abusive men harass those who bring it up.

Please do not interact with me if you create mafia AUs or romanticize it, glorifying it and writing it off as anything other than the violent, mysogynistic, racist as well as homophobic organization it actually is.

You like villains? Criminal settings? Cool, but you can work on organized crime scenarios without mentioning mafia. It's fun to explore this theme in fiction but as soon as you place that word in there, what you are doing is forcibly tying your story to real-life people and real-life events.

I enjoy Internet bullying and people who tell me to shut up and laugh at me, but can’t respond to my face.

NOBODY ever said that Italians are subjected to the same systematic racism that brown people experience. Nobody is trying to say that Sicilians or Calabrese or Apulians are oppressed because they are Sicilians, Calabrese, Apulians.

(Anti-Southern prejudice still exists though, but that’s another issue)

Nobody is trying to say that, worldwide, muslim people, people of color don’t have it worse. Because they do. Racism is systematic and isn’t about feelings. (You see, I do agree)

I’m just trying to say that: as I understand the harm in portraying Joe as a terrorist - because it’s an harm that causes so much violence and death - please, try to understand that romaticizing Mafia is the same. Because Mafia plays into romanticization, fascination and concepts as honor and glory to ensure that young people obey and become a part of it.

It does cost people lives today and as we speak.

And sure, I can be ignorant, an asshole and embarassing, but things need to be said clearly and why this fucking fandom is such a mess and alienates so much people … well, take a good look at this stuff.

And we are here discussing really bad and real stuff over a fucking Netflix movie. We are all out of our minds!

So, that’s it. Enough with bullshit. I apologise for being so snappy - I am insane, after all - but please, please, please some of you need to grow the fuck up.

Please stop romanticizing mafia

Italians: hey, we’ve been asking this for a while. Can you guys please stop romanticizing mafia? It’s a really serious problem here in Italy, people die daily because of it and we find it very disrespectful. It’s not what you think it is, it’s not like in 365 days.

Americans: UuGh YoU gUyS wAnNa Be OpPrEssEd sO BaD StFU

Italians: we... never said we were oppressed, we were just asking you to respect the dead innocent people and we’re trying to educate you to what mafia really is. We don’t romanticize 9/11 so please stop romanticizing mafia.

Americans: Oh YoU PrEsSed bc We DiSrEsPeCtEd YoUr CuLtUrE

Italians: mafia is not our culture. It’s our history that still goes on and we just don’t want people to think that marrying a mafia boss means being the Kardashians with guns. It means having your child melted alive in acid with you by a mafia clan.

Americans: whateva stfu and cookmedapasta. I cooka da pizza

That’s how fucking stupid some of y’all sound. It’s not that hard to understand that.

ummm I shouldn’t even be here and make this post but

don’t romanticize mafia.

You may think that your mafia AUs are cool, but please, don’t do that, especially if the good guys are in the mafia. Of course I mean the actual criminals, not the kid gangs who call themselves “mafia”.

Why, you may ask? Aren’t there some good guys in there? Isn’t their “aesthetic” cool?

No. You want a list of the most disgusting things they’ve done? Here you go:

These are just a couple of examples, but I hope this late night post makes you think about things in a different perspective.

Feel free to add on.

Mafia AUs, more like “these characters are members of the anti-mafia police and will fight mafia with passion” AUs, thank you.

I feel like people who write highly romanticised mafia stories don't really know what the mafia really does in Italy and in the world

So I propose we start replacing the word "mafia" with "human traffickers", to make those people understand a little how deranged they sound
