They stood out front of the company, staring up at the huge structure.
"Did da place?"
"Seems so." Kat looked up at him, squeezing his hand. "Tomo nii-san said he'd help."
"Don't know why he'd help a stranger..." he sighed and led her to the reception desk. "Uh...could we Kaiba-kun? Maybe make an appointment?"
He reached to take his hand, hoping that it will at least calm him.
"I'm pretty sure that Kat is fine. And if she is as resourceful than my assistant, I don't have even have a doubt."
Standing up, he went to take bottle of water on the table and gave it to him.
"We are just going to wait to see if the doctors have everything than we will go. I have some of your belongings, maybe it will help you."
Jou's grip on the bottle only lasted a second, fingers flexing suddenly like a spasm and dropping it. Luckily the lid was still on.
"S-Sorry..."
He picked it up, his movements more controlled as he set the drink down on the table.
"... I lived with ya?"
Kaiba was about to help him, when Jou was already taking back the bottle. Frowning, he concentrated on the question.
“It’s ok. And yes, you did. Not for long. We didn’t have time to get used to it.”
He looked at him, concern in his eyes, when a doctor came back. Once he had confirmed that they had everything and that they will have the result tomorrow, he put his hand on Jou’s back in a protective way.
“Let’s go check on your sister before coming home.”
"Please don't give me dat look, I've had enough of dat look," He sighed. He's tired of the concern and pity.
Jou followed him, eventually spotting Kat playing duel monsters with another kid, betting sweets like star chips.
"And boom! My Harpie deck wins again!" Kat grinned. "Ya gonna owe me ya lunch at dis rate."
"Don't bet with da sick kid's lunches," He scolded softly.
"Fiiine, but I'm destroying regionals dis month."
He began to feel anger at the injustice of this comment, but he kept it inside, his eyes going back to a cold blue.
When they found Kat, he let escape a little huff, folding his arms with a little smile. His heart wasn't in it, but he couldn’t just not being nice to kids. They did nothing wrong and he didn’t have to report his mood on them.
“The regionals, hm? Really?”
"Totally! And when Katsuya gets his memory back, we can wipe da tag team circuit!"
Jou grinned. "Yeah, da unstoppable Jounouchi's!!"
The pair high five and laughed.
“To be honest, I would pay to see this. And I’m serious here.”
Glad that the other children understood that now wasn’t the moment for him to play. He walked toward the elevator that was going up to his home, opening one of his arm to Jou and Kat.
“How about we go in my penthouse to discuss this future plan while eating an ice cream? You are both welcome to stay for as long is needed. You don’t need to sleep in the hospital. And Katsuya, I have some of your belongings to give you.”
