'I'm Sorry'

Bokuto x GN!Reader

Word Count: 635

Angst

Warning: cheating

“Can I get that one please?” You pointed at the cake on display.

“Of course, would you like anything written on it?”

“Could you write ‘I’m Sorry’?”

You made your way home, cake in hand, to Bokuto. ‘I’m Sorry’ constantly ringing through your mind. You’re glancing at the cake, seeing those two words stare right back at you only to remind you of what you did.

It’s not like you purposely meant to hurt him. You had a gut feeling and followed it, there’s nothing wrong with that. But when you look back on that day, you’re reminded of the betrayal written all over his face. You’re reminded of the questioning, the screaming, the tears, and the- huh, you never did apologize.

Well, that’s what the cake was for. It doesn’t say much, but you’re hoping it gives you a chance to explain yourself; an ‘I’m Sorry’ cake to segway into how wrong it was of you to accuse him of cheating. Why would you ever blame him for that?

There was nothing on his phone that could have shown he was cheating on you. Yeah, you saw an unknown woman’s contact saved, but what did you expect? MSBY members had millions of contacts saved onto their phones, well, their work phones, at least.

And that event he reluctantly invited you to. Everyone was there. It was no shock that that same unknown woman showed up. She was perfect. When Bokuto introduced her to you (excitement evident in his voice), you found no flaws. And when you saw them talking in private, it almost looked like they were in a relationship. But you were getting off track. He made it clear that it was her job to check in on MSBY members and said she did the same for his teammates. Well, that was debatable. You spent most of the night with Sakusa, Atsumu, and Hinata while Bokuto and that woman were together.

She even showed up at your house one day; with Bokuto’s friends, but she was there too. Normally, the guys would chill and play games together, you would make an appearance if you were interested, but it was almost always them. Seeing that woman in your home didn’t sit right at the moment. She still spoke to you, but she always found a way to throw herself into their conversation.

You were just paranoid, and maybe a little jealous. That’s why you acted out and accused him of cheating. There was absolutely no way that Bokuto could ever cheat on you. He loved you and you loved him. And that’s why you were bringing over your apology cake. You were going to apologize for being paranoid, apologize for letting your jealousy control you, apologize to that woman (not personally, but through him), and apologize for not trusting him.

‘I’m Sorry’ ringing through your mind as you unlocked the door and got inside. You rushed to the kitchen, set on preparing the cake. Taking it out of the box and placing it on a tray, you walk to your shared bedroom, unaware of the noise coming from inside.

‘I’m Sorry.’

You reach for the doorknob.

‘I’m Sorry for being insecure.’

You twist the handle.

‘I’m Sorry for accusing you.’

You push the door open.

‘I’m Sorry for not trusting y-’

The cake falls on the floor.

All you can do right now is stare at the scene unfolding in front of you. You can’t hear anything. You can’t hear their gasps, you can’t hear the bed sheets ruffling as they cover themselves, you can’t hear the way Bokuto calls out your name. You can only hear the sound of his footsteps stomping towards you, your cue to turn around.

“‘I’m Sorry’ for interrupting,” is all he gets before you slam the door shut.
