Conclusion
Let me start off by thanking everybody (again) who contributed. This has been a breeze and I learned quite a lot of things as well :) and had contact with so many beautiful people.
IMHO: This is a blessed fandom.
Not only do most of it take that little motto “Eat the rude” to their hearts, but it is incredibly creative, devoted, just a little bit on the crazy side, open-minded and funny. A rather seductive combination as I myself have found out…. :)
And of course - not last or least - it is utterly blessed to have cast, creators and crew supporting it and wanting to come back for more.
I think that this - the birthday video others made, the rewatches, the various tags, and all the art, the stories and the special events that are being organized, and yes, this ad - is the glue that keeps this fandom from disbanding. It’s been a year, and it will be a year still. We’re still here and I believe that if we keep on like this, it’ll happen. We have to keep pushing. To quote a long time favorite film of mine, “Not so long. Just once around the sun.”. We believe in you, Bryan and Martha :)
I will post here some of the feedback we got for the ad - the feedback I have gotten on various accounts, and that others have gotten on theirs. It’s not just feedback from official channels, but also from other Fannibals, because I think some of it is very important. And yes, I have been getting harsh criticism also - though in a tone of voice that’s very much “trolling” level and therefore I will ignore here. I’ve said it before, I take it as a badge of honor :) [I did not delete it, its in the comments here and on the campaign].
Now, first things first. Senpai(s) noticed us, which (admittedly) was part of the goal, because we want them to see this!! (Of course^^)
We got likes and RTs by Martha DeLaurentiis, Janice Poon, Scott Thompson, Helen Shang, Loretta Ramos, Kacey Rohl, Steve Lightfoot, Lara Jean Chorostecki and Brooke Palmer. And sooo many Fannibals, it’s amazing. I still get the notifs. Love you all.
There were quite a few Fannibals that were very happy that we wrote “around the world”. Guess what - I am also from around the world, and I know EXACTLY how you feel…. Season 3 officially aired here just now. It’s beyond ridiculous. The rating system that (officially) felled Hannibal has to go. We’re worldwide. Thank god the streaming vendors are interested (if that rights management is ever solved) - and yes, I have gotten that as feedback from various sources.
What astounded me, is the praise this fandom got from other (what I would perceive) Fandoms/parts of the internet.
These were some of the comments on the GoFundMe and Tumblr:
“In honor of Bryan, Mads, Hugh, Gillian, Laurence, Caroline, Lara Jean, and all other cast and crew. Thanks for a wonderful show and looking for season 4.”
“Hannibal has never received an Emmy and it’s high time those who vote give the show it’s due.”
“#EmmyForHannibal #SaveHannibal Hannibal deserve to win the award and This great show should be save and keep going season 4! There are not only United state audience to watch this show, I hope they can understand if any company save this show, you will win the audience from around the world.”
The latter is another example for the reach of this show. If you’ve ever seen the korean TV spots (for example) you don’t doubt for a second it may have cult status everywhere… (go on, google it :))
Conclusion to the conclusion:
Will this serve as a means to get Hannibal an Emmy? *shrugs* Who knows. The Voting is not as simple a process, yes (as criticised), but there is a reason why all the others put their ads in the LA Times now as well.
But even if it doesn’t, I personally think that it was very well worth the money. Because there’s something physical out there, that was delivered to a lot of people that shows that WE’RE still out here and WE’RE still fighting for this show.
And maybe that’s even more important.
