The reason it’s so hard to explain the context of the Sudanese war to people is because it’s more of a long history of neglect, abuse, manipulation, and gaslighting from psychopathic narcissist parents. We can explain the sociopolitical history of the military and RSF but that’s just the tip of the ice berg in terms of the backstabbing, belittling, and betrayal the citizens have dealt with.
1. They hijacked the first revolution in decades that ousted a dictatorship and said “we’ll take over for a little bit and give back the power to y’all!” (They didn’t)
2. They massacred hundreds of us in a peaceful sit-in at said revolution they hijacked and threw our bodies in the Nile. And then literally, VERBATIM on National TV said “it is what it is.”
3. Routinely r*aped women during protests and tied their underwear to sticks as trophies
4. Gave us a fake civilian prime minister and then ousted him too
5. Darfur genocide. Killed simply for being black and the wrong tribes. That’s it.
6. Character assassinated the revolution and said it was morally decaying the youth and turned half the country against itself
7. DISTRIBUTED CRYSTAL METH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SUDAN’S HISTORY TO BREAK DOWN THE WILL OF THE YOUTH TO RISE UP AGAIN
8. Routinely stopping us on the street, harassing us, stealing our phones and cash
9. Let the old dictator regime slowly crawl back into power
10. Stealing our resources and arable land and selling them for cheap to foreign powers for decades. Sudan was called The World’s Bread Basket. Now we can’t even feed ourselves
11. Historically and even now during the war, arresting and torturing neighborhood committee members aka the only people who organize to help us during crises where military and RSF were nowhere to be found. They help us through floods, massacres, food and medicine shortage, and now evacuating and aiding those fleeing war.
And 487272939383 more things. When I say that Sudan has been ruled for 30+ years by people who genuinely hate the citizen’s guts and see them as literal trash in the way of their power and money I’m not exaggerating.
