Just did a quick google translate; "Aufrehrgeist" would roughly translate to "turmoil ghost" which would fit the strife-ghosts fairly well.
I just don't think there's a particular word in most wide-spread languages that tie the weather to emotions. The closest I can think of is the legend of the Fisher King, who was originally a king whose land was failing because he was in ill health, but it became expanded to a king whose emotional state altered the state of his kingdom, tied to the position, rather than a specific ruler. An example of this modern version is evident in the Lion King, as the difference between Mufasa's rule and Scar's rule.

Aufrehrgeist is actually my favorite so far. Might have trouble remembering to spell it, so I should /probably/ write that down somewhere.
But yeah I think this is a good word to use instead of the Canon one.
