I would like to say “Ahaha, well I’ll leave that to talented fanfiction writers to figure out ;) *wink wonk*” but I’m not smooth like that 

It’s hard to say in what point Yamaguchi would ask Tsukishima is it be okay to call him Tsukki (talking about THIS AU drawing). I haven’t even decided how they even meet in the first place. 

Probably Tsukishima finds Yamaguchi practising float serve all alone in a park and says his classic “pathetic” line. AND he would start doing that annoying “Tsukishima being a little shit” thing that he did when he met Kageyama in the series: teasing and trying to rile him up in smooth way. Tsukishima has in this AU also bad experience with volleyball because of his brother, and wants to ruin others’ joy too. Tsukishima would also have seen Yamaguchi’s games beforehand before approaching him, he wouldn’t tease a random highschooler without knowing anything about them. Yamaguchi on the other hand doesn’t know anything about Tsukishima’s volleyball past but gets the idea that Tsukishima has some knowledge about it.

This would keep happening few times when Yamaguchi is practising in the park until at some point Yamaguchi has enough and calls Tsukishima out (after Akaashi having a stern talk with Yamaguchi about not taking crap from anyone). Slowly Yamaguchi and Tsukishima would gain mutual respect for each other and hang out together. Then you would get all those fluffy sitting in a park bench drinking cold drinks under cherry blossoms and Yamaguchi asking “Can I call you Tsukki?” and Tsukishima having a slight heart attack

This may not be the most sweetest and wholesome AU as some people might have expected, something like “they just meet and instantly start dancing around each other and being adorable dorks”. I really don’t think these two would “get together” that easily. They both would need some growing to do: Yamaguchi to stand up for himself and Tsukishima to get over his arrogant “you can’t have fun because I have a bad experience of it” attitude. Especially Tsukishima, that salty giraffe

So far I have only thought about Hinata and Yamaguchi being on different teams. They are what I would like to say “oddball” additions for teams. They really stand out and makes you want to know more.

For example, Hinata is very short, which is even more noticable compared to other Shiratorizawa’s team members who are super tall and strong looking. Not saying that Karasuno’s team members aren’t strong, I mean that Shiratorizawa’s team members have this sort of energy and attitude that radiates “strong, serious and intimidating” vibe. Hinata’s bright orange hair (or red, there’s a debate what color his hair really is) also really compliments the purple-white volleyball uniform which sort of helps him to blend in but still… doesn’t. It’s difficult to explain since I just did one drawing of him in that volleyball uniform and didn’t think it any further.  

The reason why I like Yamaguchi in Fukurodani’s team is because the idea of a timid and lanky freckled Yamaguchi in one of the Tokyo’s power-house school’s is just fascinating. It’s really weird and almost makes you question “how on earth he got there in the first place?!” Like, you can understand Bokuto and Akaashi, they look competent as athletes and students and you believe that they belong there. But when you throw Yamaguchi in there, you are just confused. You start to wonder did he get into the school because he is super smart, is he secretly super good in volleyball or is everything just because of luck. 

The Fukurodani’s white-grey volleyball uniform also looks good on Yamaguchi and makes the contrast of him “not quite belonging there” even greater. That uniform is also pretty neutral for anyone to wear, unlike Aoba Josai’s and Nekoma’s. Their uniforms can be very off-looking on other characters. Aoba Josai’s uniform color is a bit too cold and unwelcoming, and Nekoma’s bright and aggressive. Not saying that you can’t make them work on other characters, it’s just tricky to make it visually believable.
