I decided to do a small little two week giveaway to end in time for you to receive it by Valentine’s Day.  I’ve always thought it was a dumb holiday, so why not make it special for one of my followers?  :0)

Please only follow/reblog if you’ll stick around after the giveaway. Only open to USA residents, and you must be over 18.  (Not my rules - Tumblr’s rules state you can only hold giveaways in your country to those 18 and over - I love my international and younger followers too!)  No giveaway blogs.  You can like this, but likes don’t count. You may re-blog as many times as you’d like, but please do not reblog back to back, over and over - I don’t want to spam your followers!  I’ll randomly select a winner and announce it on Saturday morning, February 7th.  Please make sure to have your ask box open, if I can’t contact you I’ll have to pick another winner! The winner will have 24 hours to respond, or I’ll select another. I’ll be covering the shipping as well. Good luck to everyone and thank you for following me!

Included in the giveaway:  an apple snail shell (found empty), a piece of citrine, a shell from Pensacola Beach, a wire wrapped dyed imperial jasper necklace I made, and a blank valentine card for you to use made by Shing Yin Khor (sawdustbear) (Please check her art out, she’s awesome!)

This giveaway isn’t associated with, administered, sponsored, or endorsed by Tumblr, and each person participating is giving information to me and not to Tumblr.

This spider was trapped in tree resin about 20 million years ago. Over time, the resin fossilized to amber, preserving the animal inside. Specimens like this are helpful given that spiders don’t fossilize well in sediment. They offer researchers good information about the group’s more recent history. The oldest known amber specimen is from around 130 million years ago. This specimen was collected in the Dominican Republic.

The Ankole-Watusi is a breed of African cattle with enormous horns. Like many other animals with headgear, the horns are used for defense, mating, and to relieve their high body temperature. Blood is pumped into the honeycomb matrix inside their horns, where it is cooled off by wind.

The first photo is by Miloš Anděra.

Three cows (female cattle) in a fight by RLBarn on Flickr. They are only trying to establish dominance, not really hurt each other.

Mama and Calf from Beef Magazine.

Lurch set the world record for largest steer horns. They are 3 feet in circumference, 7 feet long, and 100 pounds each.

CT Woodie set the record for largest circumfrence of horns in a bull. His horns were uneven and in two out of the three photos I have seen of him, he was standing like that.

I am posting this video on behalf of all the reptile owners out there who get horrible comments on photos and videos of their pets, the most popular being ‘kill it with fire’, along with ‘get rid of it’ and ‘that’s disgusting’ not too far behind.

Please, don’t tell use to kill our animals. We love them just as much as you love your cats and dogs. How would you like it if you posted a picture of your adorable kitten, only to have someone reblog it and tell you that’s it’s hideous and needs to be destroyed?

It’d make you mad right? So why do it to reptile owners? Or any other exotic animal owner for that case. It’s not just reptiles. Insect and rodent owners get the same amount of horrendous comments about their animals as well. This is a major problem, and it needs to stop.

For a lot of people, their animals are their children. So the next time you tell someone to ‘kill it with fire’ you are telling someone to murder their child.

And that is not okay.

So please.

Show some respect. Thank you.

This is really a great video because Burms in particular have been getting a lot of shit lately.

What a cutie pie.
