I teach teenagers and own one, which
means I'm insane or have oodles of patience. I think it's the former.

Four teenage Jewish boys wearing religious attire were assaulted and robbed in a hate crime Sunday evening, say police.
The 17-year-old boys were walking in Toronto’s north end wearing kippahs when they passed another group of nine people in their early teens, who made derogatory comments about their religion, according to police. The two groups were unknown to one another.
The group then assaulted two of the boys, “punching and kicking them” and stole a pair of sunglasses from one of the victims, reported police who arrived at the scene at 8 p.m. Officers arrested a 17-year-old whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The Jewish community is “deeply disturbed to learn of this vile assault,” said Noah Shack, GTA vice president of The Centre of Israel and Jewish Affairs in a statement. “Jewish Canadians should never fear wearing their kippah in public.”

Teachers and professors that accept late assignments and allow you to retake exams deserve nothing but the best in the world.

The crazy part is that they’re just being decent people, which is very rare in higher education

there’s actually research to back up the idea that doing so returns a better assessment of student understanding, as well as better student understanding.  If the point is to learn… why is there a strict time limit on that?

Because our educational system is a for-profit group of companies that puts little to no value on students or teachers success or well-being.

As a teacher, I’ll take this on.

Due dates are a life experience you will have to learn. In real life away from school, there’s due dates for EVERYTHING! Don’t pay your taxes on time? Fines. Don’t pay your heating bill on time - you’re cold in the winter. Don’t pay the phone bill on time...you get the idea. And that’s just the regular, day to day life lessons we teachers are tasked with. What about at a job or career? Don’t fulfill a duty at a job on time, risk being fired. Don’t do the requirement at your career? Your employer will find someone who does.

We, as educators, have to give you this life lesson in a safe setting, such as school. You don’t hand in an assignment on time and get a zero? Not life or death, but it’ll teach you not to do that again if your grades are important to your success.

being mentally ill + suicidal at a young age (before 18) is. strange, because you grow up with this idea that one day you’ll finally snap, turn off, be brave enough to kill yourself, so you don’t really plan for the future. adulthood- further life, it isn’t for you, nor do you feel included within the future of it. it isn’t.. it isn’t part of your life plan.

and then before you know it you’re 18 and you’re an adult but you never thought you’d get this far and sure it’s great that you’re still alive you guess but also. you feel so alone + lost in a world you never expected or planned to be a part of.

In two weeks I’ll be 24 and I don’t have any clue at all. I don’t have plans, I just have childish dreams like “being a journalist”, “being a chef”, but my time is running out. I mean, I should use these years to create my future but I’m doing nothing. Maybe I’ll start working 11 hours a day with no free day for less than 1000€ a month, sacrificing my time to earn little money and surely can’t afford to live a decent life on my own. Oh God. Why.

In three weeks I’ll be 50. My childish dream was to be a teacher. That dream, after my life took a serious turn, finally came true with much work, much pain, with much reward. I’ve been teaching for 15 years, after beginning working on that dream at 30. Despite serious mental health issues, I made my life happen. You will too!  “They” say that one will have at least 3 careers in their lifetime, and I”m on my second.

Don’t think at 20-30 you will have any idea where your life is headed! I was still partying and having fun at 24! Life does NOT get “all” figured out - ever! But certainly not in your 20s.

I'd make fun of my boss too if I woke up one morning to find myself being a candelabra or a clock.
