What did one wear to a barn dance? Doctor Professor (qualifications pending) Rosalind de Sainte-Coquille, owner of the De Sainte-Coquille Park, president of the still unofficial Leuda-Arcadia Friendship Society was still not entirely sure, seeing as she’d never been to such an event. But seeing as it was Autumn she supposed she’d just go for something Autumnal, and the plaid sort of print felt... Appropriate. Paired with a lovely black and white bag, some black heels and gorgeous earrings. Why, Rosalind simply would be the belle of the ball. Not that she had to try.

(average) Sweet Potato Pie Potluck

As the president of the (still unofficial) Leuda-Arcadia Friendship Society obviously Rosalind de Sainte-Coquille would be doing more than simply attending the Harvest Festival celebrations, she would be participating.

And what better way to participate than with her own recipe Sweet Potato Pie - Because honestly, anything made with sweet potato (her favourite food) could only foster positivity.

Autumn had arrived, the smell of rain just fallen lingering and a cool breeze drifting through the window as Rosalind sat in her study, vaguely flicking through an old novel she’d read seemingly countless times before. As the record she’d been playing on the families antique gramophone came to end she let out a sigh, closing the novel she’d been paying no attention to and standing to restart the record.

Collapsing into the chaise longue under the window she took a grape one of the staff had left in a bowl next to it and popped it into her mouth, looking out the window at one of the grand trees in the garden.

The leaves had begun their annual change in colour, soon, she knew, they would be gone, and the cold winter would be upon them once more. Would it be, Rosalind pondered, another winter spent alone? She wasn’t one to yearn for company - she was too busy for such things... But as her thoughts drifted to her cousin and her ever expanding family, she couldn’t help the pang of jealousy. The way their home would light up with laughter over the holiday season, the young children delighting in the gifts and fun the long winter nights will bring.

A grand manor like her own was too much for one girl.

She closed her eyes, listening to the songs warbling vocals, and saw a face in her mind. The feelings she was beginning to have for him were becoming too strong to ignore, but in turn, the worries that her father would never approve of him crept in. Her eyes snapped open, the song having yet again come to an end. Sitting back up, Rosalind closed the window.

She already knew the choice she’d make if she was forced to. Wasn’t it obvious?

Groovin’ & Grillin’ || Open

When the local government approached Rosalind about putting on some open air summer concerts in her park, well, the proprietress jumped at the chance. As one of the only, and easily the nicest, green spaces on the island of Leuda it was certainly correct that  such events would be held there, and if she also agreed to it as it would bring a little more prestige to her family? Well. Life is about give or take.

The concert that day was more subdued than usual, a small musical group from the same part of the mainland Rosalind’s ancestors hailed from were playing some marvellous traditional pieces, so Rosalind had decided to come and help out with the running of the event to enjoy the performance and the late summer weather.

As she took the money of a patron and handed them their order she smiled, beckoning the next customer in line forward.

“Hi there! What can I get you? We have all the usual things you’d expect at an event like this, and for today only we’re also serving up some delicious French treats. May I recommend a croissant, or if you’re a little hungrier I can make a crêpe with your choice of filling, anything from chocolate, to simple lemon and sugar. Or even something savoury!”

Pulling Doubles || Open

Coffee. Coffee, coffee, coffee. All Rosalind could think about, and all she needed, in that moment was coffee. She’d been working triple-overtime, it felt like. She was lucky, being the head of the science department at the academy was fulfilling work, but preparing for classes to restart, something which was only around the corner, was always a particularly stressful time of year, and coordinating things with the other science teachers could get tiring. 

On top of the Back to School prep, Rosalind also had to contend with an influx of new classes at The Musiceum, parents enrolling their children to learn various musical instruments, people deciding to take on the world after a lazy summer. And then there was her own education - Working and studying at the Alpha Medical Centre. Owning the De Sainte-Coquille Park was luckily not an enormous factor in her tiredness. Outsourcing work really was a blessing.

The barista appeared somewhat out of it as Rosalind approached the counter, the place was empty - And the girl hadn’t ordered, which probably meant that coffee being made was for the barista. Rosalind couldn’t help but smile. Clearly she wasn’t the only one feeling a little overworked.

“Yes, I’d love a coffee.” She replied, “Extra strong, if you don’t mind. I’ve got to work after this, and I don’t want to fall asleep in front of a student.”

August 8th Activity Check

Rosalind de Sainte-Coquille loved Beach Day. She adored summer, she adored the nice weather, and she loved relaxing on the beach with a good book and a refreshing glass of lemonade. When it got too hot she could take a dip in the ocean, the salt water giving her hair a charming wave. 

Beach Day, as a major activity, was one where Rosalind worried a little less about appearances. While she would strive to put her family in good light as ever, it was one where she was more concerned with having a good time rather than networking, but if the opportunity should arise she wouldn’t hesitate to advertise her projects - especially as many Arcadian’s would be on Leuda for the celebration.
