How has it been going with the mutant goldfish, if you don't mind me asking?
well, i got her a buddy so she wouldn't be lonely, and she's put on a little weight because of all the foraging opportunities in my pond. i've named her oddity!

hey, is anybody a goldfish breeder? i think i may just have found something special here...
it looks like the same mutation that gave rise to double-tail bettas? you can see from the video that the lobes are all straight and in line with the spine, unlike simply a failed butterfly-tail.
so my question is, do i have a potential new breed progenitor here, or a known deformity that's usually culled?
well Boss said i could have her, so for better or worse this mutant baby is now *my* mutant baby! as of this morning she seems to be having a marvelous time grazing on algae in my pond. the koi have either yet to notice her or are huddling in a corner somewhere in fear of the new thing.
i've determined that at least some of the bend in her spine/tail is an optical illusion caused by her body colors flowing onto her fins. she's straight and symmetrical when seen from the top and has absolutely no trouble zipping around. fingers crossed that she has a long and healthy life!

regardless, when i pointed the mutation out to my boss, he said i could have him/her (i didn't think to check the vent and they're too young to tell from body shape), so now the mutant baby is *my* mutant baby
of all the places in the tank to sit, these guys sure love to do it right on top of flounders
a customer brought us this beautiful 12-inch goldfish and within about ten minutes all the other fish in the bin decided that she was their new mom

snippet took the shrimp from my left hand, while scoot, smidge, and smudge split the one in my right hand. lenny and bugs hung back and watched.
that means:
we will have some heavy rain in may, and the meaning of life is to cooperate and build community!
