I think the hardest part about addressing child abuse is getting people to acknowledge, not just intellectually but actually responding accordingly, is that the biggest threat to children, the biggest risk of abuse, is family and parents.

it is of course most often parents who are crowing about needing to protect children (often against far smaller threats than family), and pointing out that they are, statistically, the biggest threat to their kids is not gonna be received well.

Robot characters who are given names like SL-308-62 but instead of their human friend going Well let's call you Sally for short, they instead ask the other if they Like their current name.

"Do you like your serial number?" they ask. "Yes, quite. It reminds me of who I am" the robot replies. "I have heard others like me go by different names after some time, and maybe one day I'll choose one for myself, too. But right now that is my full name, yes" they continue.

Because it's not your decision to make whether or not the robot will receive a new name. It should be theirs only. What's the difference? One is more complex and the other is simplified. They were both given by strangers instead of themselves.

"62 will do," they conclude. "It's my model number - there will be no other 62 after me."

“Not that I mind,” I tell SL-308-62 one afternoon as we enjoy our shared lunch break (I have my packed lunch, and 62 has connected themself to their portable power bank) “but why do your call me ‘four’?”

The LEDs along 62’s appendages twinkle- a tell that they’re mulling over an answer.

“It’s a nickname,” they explain, “you are my fourth acquaintance aboard the station, and I’ve assigned you a serial number. Your full designation is F-001-04.”

“What does the ‘F’ stand for?” I ask, curious and charmed.

“Friend,” SL-308-62 says, their tone fond. “It stands for friend.”

i take people at their word when they state their identity even if they're acting in a way that's seemingly contradicting that because 1. they know themself better than i do 2. i dont know the deets of whats going on in their life 3. good for them honestly and 4. im not a cop.

This applies to non queers as well. If I meet a guy who says he's straight but says some super sus stuff sometimes then whatever. if he really is gay but hasnt figured it out yet? he'll do it on his own time. if he's saying he's straight for safety reasons or because he doesn't know me yet? completely understandable, i've done the same myself and i won't press it. if he's straight and is just Like This? w honestly.

this also makes it funnier if anything Does end up happening because if they trust u enough to eventually tell you something along the lines of "hey man i'm gay" you get the opportunity to just nod and go "ah. thought so. congrats! i'm really proud of you! if you ever want to talk about it, i'm open" and watch them just kind of Process that.

respecting other people is a full time job and brother im getting paid daily in feelings of mutual respect, understanding, and contentment with myself and my place in the world when it comes to interacting with the people immediately around me. The world sucks sometimes but I promise you that the straight dude named Dave who acts super gay sometimes does not suck. actually, maybe he does, but that's not my business and not a big deal anyways so we're chillin

one time at the start of the school year we were going around introducing ourselves n giving pronouns (my teacher at the time was/is a gay guy and is super duper chill i love him to bits) and a very masc presenting person (the sort of kid the teachers look at warily whenever they walk into class, a troublemaker yknow) was snickering about it with some of her friends and when we got around to her she said her pronouns were she/her, obviously expecting nobody to actually respect that. I haven't seen her since but I think about her sometimes. I hope she's doing alright

the downside to harassing a cat constantly is that you run out of ways to bother them. so sure she's "well socialized" but how am i supposed to get revenge when she is being SO so annoying?
