i think the funniest possible star trek viewing order might be strictly chronological.

you’d have to start with that Voyager episode where they go to before the Big Bang, then work your way through every other time travel episode, the one with the whales, and First Contact before you even get close to anything approaching a normal viewing order.

at some point you’d have to watch “City on The Edge of Forever” followed by “Little Green Men” followed by “Far Beyond the Stars” which is about the most tonal whiplash you could possibly get from three consecutive episodes of star trek. I think I want to try this now.

The way Gideon's narration, at the end of Ht9, so wildly oscillates between fury and love. I'm obsessed, it drives me insane.

"you sack of Ninth House garbage" right up next to "there were a couple of callouses now on those soft necromancer’s palms, and I was proud of you."

"you cross-patched necromantic shit" mere paragraphs before "don't worry, honey, I'll keep the home fires burning."

And don't even get me started on the brume of pain and devotion that is "I gave you my whole life and you didn't even want it."

the bit in HtN in the canaan house dream bubble where harrow says something along the lines of, "this is unsustainable, you are all in danger, we need to find a way for you to escape" and abigail responds, "we know how. we already did it for the kids. we all could have left at any time and we all chose to stay, for you". and then harrow is like, "ok but at least ortus should leave. he isn't a fighter, he never was, he deserves to leave" and abigail just shuts her down. she's like, "i already tried, and he can't be convinced. he wants to stay for you". i am unwell about it. harrow can't even really try to convince the remaining souls to leave her because they have already sent away the ones who needed to be protected and they have already tried to convince each other, and failed. there's nothing left for her to use as ammunition against herself. there's nothing left but evidence that she is cared for. forgive me but i just want characters who have spent their life drowning in self loating to be forced to reckon with the fact that they are loved.

Underrated moment in Harrow the ninth is when everything is well and truly going to shit and Pyhrra takes a moment to say hey man I know you've got a lot going on right now but I just thought you should know that I also did fuck your mum

tamsyn really did something with the dynamic of jod and the lyctors she was like i’m gonna take just some guy and his friends and make him god and them immortal but ten thousand years later they still kinda treat him like hes god but also like a guy they’ve been stuck being friends with for Ten Thousand Years but you can never tell which one it is because they’re all ten thousand years old and have moved far past normal human expression and communication structures and they’re all also kinda psychosexually obsessed with each other and have and Do fuck .. mercy alters her own dna at will to turn her hair pink for funsies . god makes a none pizza with left beef joke . g1deon is actively attempting murder for most of the book . god has a threesome on the dinner table

the dynamic between harrow and ianthe in htn is so funny. harrow’s like: she creeps me out a lot, she’s disgusting and ugly. i made out with her a couple times. it was gross. i prefer my imaginary corpse girlfriend

and ianthe is just like: i’m going to marry this girl (malicious intent)
