in Blood Communion, Lestat says that Louis's blood is like wine. Is it evidence that he's drinking his blood but Anne was too lazy to write it?

(this happens when Lestat drinks Gregory's blood)

I'm going to say a cautious yes? I assume Louis and Lestat would be blood sharing since it's the vampire equivalent of sex, but it really seems like Loustat exists against AR's will so I wouldn't be surprised if she just didn't bother writing that in as its own scene (she certainly doesn't bother with any other relationship development for them).

Or I suppose it could just be that Lestat remembers it from turning him because I don't think he canonically drinks from Louis any other time? But yeah, they're basically vampire married so they would probably also be vampire fucking.

Edit: I have been reminded in the comments that Lestat is definitively talking about Louis' current blood, so yes! They are doing the vampire sex but Lestat knows better than to describe it in detail or it probably won't be happening again anytime soon.

Even if it's frustrating, I think it's cute that Lestat is shy about his feelings for Louis. He's so "casanova" most of the time, but with Louis he's like an inexperienced 15-year-old in love.

Oh I totally agree!! I love the lovesick heart eyes Louis brings out in Lestat. He's so incredibly confident and suave (or at least forward) with all his other love interests, but with Louis, his only modes are "pigtail pulling on steroids" and "uwu hnngg". Lestat just cannot be normal around Louis. He's either making an ass of himself because he's afraid of his feelings or just fucking about to explode because he's so happy and in love.

I wanted so badly for Lestat to be upfront and very explicit about his feelings at the end of TVL and QOTD, but there's something very charming about how tongue-tied he is and how the feelings are so strong that he can't find a way to verbalize them (and about Louis clearly knowing but being nice enough not to say anything). Plus the reminder of just how afraid Lestat is of vulnerability and rejection for that little kick of pain. Oof, good stuff.

"What would Christ need have done to make me follow Him like Matthew or Peter? Dress well, to begin with. And have a luxurious head of pampered yellow hair.

I hate myself."

The movie may have robbed us of seeing Lestat and Louis sharing a coffin

but

It gave us Lestat asking Louis if he was going to come while lying on top of him and Louis gasping yes while they were having the equivalent of vampire sex so.

hey :) i'm new to the vampire chronicles fandom and I was just wondering if you have any information (or know where to find) on what Anne Rice thought about Lestat and Louis being a couple. I have seen a facebook post where she describes lestat as bisexual but i can't seem to find much more information on it :0 love your blog <3

Hello and welcome! Thank you for the love for my blergh! šŸ’ž

"As a couple" can really be expanded on, some of what I think is compelling about Lestat/Louis is whether THEY consider themselves a couple at various times in canon!

Anne Rice had a lot of thoughts about Lestat and Louis' love for each other, and that could be considered them "being a couple." Volumes could be written about that. You can dig around on her main Facebook www.facebook.com/annericefanpage, where she would often ask readers about their thoughts, and sometimes she would respond.

So I'll just be choosy here, but if you search my blog for https://i-want-my-iwtv.tumblr.com/search/anne%20rice+facebook+lestat+louis, you'll find some more posts about it.

Aaaaanyway.

The link to the post is now broken, but thankfully, I had copied the question and response, someone asked her:

ā€œBut as a long time fan, Iā€™ve ( and many other fans, IĀ“m sure..) never understood the whole ā€œLestat and Louis- thingā€ and I think in a psychologically way it is also very interesting. Please, can you POFOUNDLY explain this whole relationship?ā€

On May 6, 2012, Anne Rice responded:

"What is the point, really, of me trying to enter the discussion? Shouldn't the discussion be based on what is in the books, the dialogue, the scenes, the things that happen in the books, etc? What could I say that would change one single line in any novel with Lestat or Louis?"

Over the years, she has been asked this often, and I think in general she's supportive of Lestat and Louis as a couple, but she's been asked so many times, that she also responds that it's for the reader to decide. As I said above, part of the L/L dynamic that I'm compelled by is that Lestat seems to be chasing Louis, desperately wanting him, but unable to fully commit monogamously. That would make him vulnerable to Louis in some ways. And Louis is also still fascinated with Lestat, he wants to be wanted and reciprocate that love, but he doesn't want to be smothered! It could be argued that they have mismatched love languages in some ways. Maybe Lestat's love language is gift giving. In general, I don't think Louis wants gifts, he wants words of praise and quality time. I think they both want physical intimacy and acts of service. So there's this push-pull that they have, this crackling chemistry. And they struggle to give/get what they want.

Hit the jump for a bit more.

ADDING:Ā

August 5, 2019: Anne Rice called Louis and Lestat ā€œclearly marriedā€ so... take that how you will...
