Stallion,
Good mornin’. Didn’t wanna wake ya. We ain’t always afforded sleep earnin’ our pay so I thought it was best t’ let’cha snatch as much shuteye as possible. Decided t’ hit the road t’ discover today’s workout n’ my curiosity led me t’ Google Maps which directed me t’ Lookout Mountain Preserve about ten miles from where we’re stayin’. Hotel van’s gonna drive me there n’ scoop me up. All it took was a pic n’ an autograph. Driver already bought tickets t’ Elimination Chamber. My desert adventure senses began buzzin’ n’ clickin’ the longer I laid supine on the mattress… Probably the reason I eventually tossed about last night. Hope I didn’t kick ya. My apologies if I did. Gotta quiet these echos bouncin’ in my skull. That sounded more drastic than it is… I suppose. Ya bought coffee yesterday so it’s my turn t’ purchase the java. I’ll ask if I can swing by a local shop ‘fore I boomerang back here. Support a small business. Worth the drive.
Been some months since I’ve hiked n’ rock climbed solo. Fresh air, nimble body, clean soul.
I love you. See you soon,
Jon.

Fandometrics In Depth: WWE Edition

Wikipedia describes professional wrestling as “an athletic form of storytelling that portrays a combat sport.” The finest form of this athletic storytelling is exhibited by the members of the @wwe, and the finest place to chronicle their fables is on Tumblr. Throughout 2016, there were over a million posts and reblogs about the #WWE and we analyzed every one of them.

The thing to know about wrestling on Tumblr is that it’s huge. Andre The Giant–huge.

Wrestling is the biggest sport on Tumblr

In 2016, the #wwe tag got…

  • 224% more engagement (searches, original posts, reblogs and likes) than #basketball, the most-engaged traditional sport
  • 489% more engagements than #soccer, and
  • 749% more engagements than #nfl

But wrestling isn’t just the biggest sport. It’s the biggest on TV.

Wrestling Smash

Those huge numbers are not just limited to sports. WWE’s most popular weekly show, Raw, airs on Mondays. We looked back at the past six months, and compared it to three other Monday night shows:

As you can see in the chart below, WWE peaked every Monday throughout the summer.  There are no hiatuses in the WWE. August’s SummerSlam and its corresponding Raw episode was one of the biggest moments in the sport in 2016.  In fact, there were 692% more original posts made about #WWE on August 21st and 22nd than there were for Supergirl, Shadowhunters and Gotham combined.

Top Wrestlers

The uninitiated might assume that John Cena is number 1, but actually the most popular wrestler is Dean Ambrose (aka alternate universe Ed Sheeran), who was posted about 408% more than the Leader of the Cenanation. Probably because Ambrose was the top WWE champion for most of the year, but maybe also because people were shipping Ambreigns. On the Diva side, @sashabankswwe was the most talked about, coinciding with her draft to Raw and her first Women’s Championship title win in July.

Like a Winter Wonderment.... Greetings from Seattle! I’m back in the States after a two-hour drive that had me waitin’ at the border so I can pass with no incident. Luckily, there was no incident. The above pics are from my chilly mini adventure I embarked on solo at Fish Trap Creek Park in Abbotsford, BC before travelin’ south. Trivia note: Abbotsford’s the hometown’a many notable celebs such as the lovely Evangeline Lilly, that one dude from Nickelback n’ SmackDown’s own Mauro Ranallo. There was a plaque in the town square---there is no plaque, I just relay factoids posted on Wikipedia. A scenic walk through ankle-high accumulations was what I dedicated my mornin’ t’ n’ I don’t regret it. Not with views like these. An’ shout out t’ Timmy Ho’s for the caffeinated warm-up.
