The White Rabbit’s Love Affair
Horror. Sheer, icy horror coursed through the doll’s stitched veins.
He had longed for nothing more than to see Mukuro once more, but the encounter he had yearned for was nothing like this. His cloth body trembled, and tears welled in his felt eyes as he stared in horror.
This was not at all anything he could’ve predicted. Not in a billion years. That the woman he loved, the Ultimate Soldier who had come out of years of hellish wars unscathed, would ever be bested by something.
He wanted to pinch himself, to have proof that this wasn’t real, to wake from this horrible nightmare. But unfortunately, he couldn’t have any such thing - he was trapped in this Hell forever as a mere puppet for it’s entertainment, at the mercy of it’s every whim. And today it had decided to show him there were fates worse than death.
Like watching the person dearest to him suffer, without being able to do a thing.
He was bound by the gallery itself and a useless form made of fabric, unable to protect or defend anyone. Utterly worthless. Damned to observation.
He reached out a tiny hand, gently grasping Mukuro’s index finger and lifting it to his lips. Placing a small kiss on her fingertip.
“I... I-I’m so s-sorry, Mukuro... I-I’m s-sorry... I-I’m such a f-failure... I-I’m sorry I... c-couldn’t s-save you. I-I’m sorry.... I died, a-and... B-became trapped in this body... Th-that can’t do a th-thing”
“B-but I... I-I’m right h-here... A-and I promise... I-I’ll never abandon y-you again.... A-alright?”
“I-I’ll stay b-by your side... F-for as long as y-you want me. F-for as long as you need me.”
“I love you... I love you more than anything”
“Th-that.... Is the only truth I can rely on.... In this fabricated world. The o-only reason.... I h-haven’t given up hope. A-and you...”
“You shouldn’t either, s-since we’re together again... W-we have nothing to f-fear...”
He wasn’t quite sure if she could hear him, nor did he entirely believe in his own words, but it was the only thing he could do. The only comfort he could provide, until he could get help. He knew she needed to get to a vase, ASAP.
