hello!

this is the captain speaking.

for the last four months (since i started indie rp as spencer) i have been pretty much open to everyone – i have a lot of threads and follow most people back. this is good & a great way to run things.

…however, due to this type of blog running, my mental health has been suffering due to anxiety, stress, and a hoard of other things. i’ve done some talking & soul searching and have decided that this blog (like my previous one) is becoming an archive. i am not leaving, i will still be here, but i will be moving to another, different blog, and changing some things – mostly in who & how i roleplay.

this is for myself. any comments / questions / concerns can be directed at my ims / ask box. a promo for my new blog will be forth coming.

“ —– uhm.” It takes her a moment to step back into herself – it’s always harder, when she’s tired. She gets lost sometimes, watching things no one else can see. Every corner has a ghost of some kind, half of them don’t speak, but they’re distracting in a way she wishes she was better at ignoring.

God, she really needed a cup of coffee. “Sorry –” This isn’t her best idea, in fact she’d probably describe it as one of her worst. Presenting yourself as a psychic to anyone in public can only really end so many ways, and it’s almost never idea. Still — “Ahm. I’m looking for someone to talk to, and I tried to police already, and honestly, I’m kind of … lost, I guess, I dunno ….”

spencer nodded, smiling at the girl softly, “well, i can try and help i guess.” a nod, small smile curlnig his lips, “i’m a federal agent, if that helps?” he offers, gesturing towards the nearby cafe, “we can talk in there?”

spencer had come out with no real plans, just needing a short break from the droll of paperwork and his co-workers. “i’m dr. spencer reid, by the way.” he offered a smile, digging a business card from his wallet and offering it to her.

A peal of laughter sounds from the sweet child as the flower crown bestowed upon her head slips through and stops when it reaches just a little above her cheekbones. Yukiko looks up to Spencer with her twinkling steel blue eyes, smile so full of innocence and purity. “It’s a bit too big, but thank you, sensei.” The little girl remembers how her mother loves red roses, though unfortunately those are way harder to make flower crowns with. For now, she settles with the same daisies she uses to make Dr. Reid’s flower crown.

“Ne, Sensei, what do you think of Mama?”

“it’s just spencer, yuki.” spencer said, smiling softly at the girl. his cheeks turn a soft shade of pink at her question. it wasn’t a question he didn’t expect, but he also didn’t want to lie to the small girl. he laughed, gesturing for the young girl to sit, moving so he’s sitting behind her, and tugging the crown off of her head, gently setting it aside.

a hum, as he begins to comb her hair with his fingers, pulling the crown apart with ease and braiding her hair, taking a pause to weave flowers into it as well. “your mom is...a very kind woman, and a very special friend to me. i think very highly of her -- and...” he smiled, easily securing her hair with a small elastic he’d taken to carrying with him due to the amount of time he’d begun spending around his neighbor’s kid, “she’s nearly as cute as you.” he said, kissing her head, softly, the sort of gentle, fond gesture he gave to henry and his other godsons.

oh yes, from the outside looking in, spencer is a fantastic dm. good development, good adventures, good storytelling…playing with him as dm is much, much less fun.

it’s kind of like being in purgatory.

spencer, due to his eidetic memory, only writes one copy of the dungeon, it’s traps and all the monsters and only one copy of map – no, you don’t get to look at a map, not the whole thing, anyway. garcia usually draws the maps as they go, because it’s sort of like auto resets – once your party wipes bam – back at the middle, but it in and of itself is the same.

a lot of times his set ups are labryinthe dungeons and mazes – survival and escape are the main objectives. a single dungeon for him can last a very long time. the group only ever got through a whole dungeon with him as dm once (and it in itself took five sessions of long, hard game play).

another thing you need to learn is spencer adores riddles and puzzles and will use them a lot in his dungeons. eventually, it comes to a point where garcia declares it a toss up, lets spencer gloat for a bit, and then boots him from dm position for a few months because everyone is annoyed with him.

spencer is hell as a dm, but it also is a side of him you don’t see outside of it, he’s got a sort of voice that works – a power to his words. he is well suited for it, and mostly they let him do it, because it’s his escape, mostly. for all of them it’s an escape – no psychological profilnig needed to kill gelatinous cubes and solve riddles to find out if you actually can pass through a door.

the power and control being dm affords him is much more relaxing to him. in the end that’s all it is, a way for them all to relax and have fun.

tl;dr: it’s hilarious to watch & hell to actually play with him as dm.

born and raised in las vegas, nevada, spencer reid is a child prodigy & a genius to a fault. intelligent and perhaps too caring, he suffered quite a bit at the hands of bullies growing up. his mom was mentally ill, and his father walked out when spencer was 10. he raised himself mostly, relying on monthly checks from his father to buy food & needed items. he attended college at caltech, but his mother’s illness worsened and he returned to care for her. five years ago,he committed his mother to a hospital in vegas, and moved to mystic falls in order to ‘start fresh’. he still writes her when he can and currently teaches junior high science.
