about the theme in t&t of people doing *extremely risky & dangerous things* with severe consequences on their own lives for the sake of the ones they love ~in a romantic way~
feenie -> dahlia
- feenie ate the bottle necklace (that once had poison lol) to defend dahlias innocence
ron -> desiree
- ron saved dessie’s life when she was being held hostage during a robbery by attacking the armed robbers by himself
viola <-> tigre
- viola helped tigre’s evil plot to frame maggey for a Murder bc he “saved” her life paying like a million bucks for her surgery (tho turns out tigre never loved her back)
gumshoe -> maggey (?)
- most of 3-3 is just gumshoe suffering over trying to help maggey lol tho idk if he risks his life or anything, so maybe he isnt as extreme as the other examples in this game
fawles -> dahlia
- fawles kills himself bc dahlia told him to ):
diego -> mia
- diego confronts dahlia alone to help mia with her investigation, leading to his “death”/becoming godot
nick -> maya
- runs across the burning bridge he was so terrified of crossing earlier, falls into a ravine, then in court turns against his own client (”iris”) because she accused maya of murder
godot -> mia
- godot carries out his whole dumb convoluted murder plot to “avenge mia”– tho by the end he acknowledges it was really for his own revenge?
so thats all the wild ~specifically dangerous~ stuff characters in t&t did for ppl they were romantically interested in
also by the end of t&t one of ways you can contrast phoenix and godot is that while godots intentions may have ultimately been for selfish reasons instead of actually helping mia (who he allegedly loved), phoenixs intentions were always selfless whether it was to genuinely protect maya for her own sake (because he loves her) or to expose the real truth behind misty fey’s murder just so he can finally put the fey drama to rest
tl;dr: t&t’s theme reveals that phoenix loves maya romantically even if he doesnt literally say it
This and also the foreshadowing when Desiree is telling Phoenix and Maya about how Ron saved her and Maya says something along the lines of “I hope you would go to those lengths to save me” to Phoenix
omg yeah foreshadowing and parallels to nickmaya's relationship are everywhere, its just the most crazy in t&t, where every romantic relationship in t&t is just some kind of mirror/reference/juxtaposition to nick and maya's relationship; like even the goddamn blue badger gets married in 3-3?!?! (january 6, police station -> examine -> the badgers by the window)
but the theme shows up later too, like in soj
like tangent but a lot of 6-6 (turnabout time traveler) is just copypasting stuff from 3-5 (and the og trilogy in general), except instead of nick running across the burning bridge to save maya, its sorin climbing the outside of a flying airship to save ellen (both dangerous things happening in very high places)
tho it just takes the t&t romance theme to even wilder extremes by making the entire case wedding themed: taking place at a wedding venue, and the defendant (ellen wyatt) being a literal bride in a wedding dress, whose fiance (sorin sprocket) has a memory disorder (kinda like nick did in 2-1, a case that made a huge deal out of building up to maya being the last person he remembered because shes the most important person to him, which is brought up later in 2-4). Also this just so happens to be the first case nick and maya have worked on together after many years apart. lots of coincidences in this case 🤔
idk this is another conspiracy but... if u assume 6-6 was written based on 2 main ideas:
1. "lol trilogy nostalgia case featuring phoenix edgeworth AND maya omg free money for crapcom lol time travel meme 😂"
2. narumayo agendaTM: the aa franchise is not allowed to die so phoenix cant canonically hook up with anybody bc crapcom would Lose Money (at most he can get kissed by a whale i guess lmao). but soj is still the "omg maya is back" game (at least in the pre-release marketing anyway lmao), so a big draw of it was seeing maya interact with nick again. also t&t had a whole theme thread about romance and narumayo, and the writer wants to respekt things established in the og trilogy. solution combining all this info? if narumayo cant be canon in the Text (so they wont literally kiss etc), they can still make it as canon as possible in the Subtext- reusing the sneaky t&t romance theme/parallels except this time on steroids, shoving a literal loving married couple (sorin/ellen) in nick & maya's faces to force them to chat about love/marriage/relationships/etc (similar to ron/desiree in 3-2), have "true love" be something relevant enough to the case that nick has to literally talk about it in court (not even t&t went that far lol), etc
BASED ON THOSE 2 IDEAS then i can see what 6-6 was actually prioritizing all along. it might not be a great aa case (iirc a guest writer worked on it, not rly yamazaki? and like imo edgeworth was a jerk for no reason ??? kinda ooc by soj, also other stuff etc) but it did cross off "nostalgia lmao" and "narumayo subtext agenda" off the checklist so... thats what we got lol
(but even then 6-6 was so wild coz imo the narumayo was still escaping subtext trying to get into the text, especially when maya throws a bouquet and makes nick catch it and refuses to explain why. knowing the symbolism behind catching bouquets imo mayas just violently frustrated at the lack of nick action at this point lmao)
