burned out but still posting

a little state-of-the-author blog post

i was thinking i'd write something in depth on dreamwidth and then cross-post, but at the moment i don't have anything profound to say

a couple weeks ago i realized i was burned out and probably had been for a while. possibly months. writing has been hard except for short bursts, and i realized i often sit down to write without any desire to write

it makes me sad

i'm hoping that this will end sooner rather than later. i kind of had a period like this last year (or so Keeper tells me) and i revised my plans going into events (like only doing ship-specific exchanges and doing ships i love for FFC). this is also how i fell in love with QuiAni as a ship which is, apparently, the only thing i still occasionally have drive to write and think about ♡ I'm very grateful for this

however, i have an insane amount of mostly finished and unposted fic. so i'll still be posting. i'd also love to keep talking, so if you see this because you're wondering what's up with a certain series or fandom... this is up: i'm burned out and writing anyway wasn't doing me favors

i have about 500k of unposted stuff and about 100k is either publishable right now or very nearly so...

so you'll still be seeing updates

if you want to be notified when something gets published, the 'subscribe' button on my ao3 will send you an email whenever I post a fic, but you can also subscribe to a specific fic or series. i don't get that info, it's anonymous ♡

you can also check out my fic log for snippets, updates, and some writing-related ask replies → @dreaminghour-archive. if you wanted to turn on notifications there you'd find out pretty soon after something gets updated

i'm also open for asks (anon is on). i appreciate kind words but talking to me about my stories or AUs, telling me what you're writing and thinking about, asking me for recs or my thoughts about anything is always welcome ( ^◡^)っ ♡

1969.........

Yes, when the original post is deleted from the server (not just the blog, but the Tumblr servers), there is no root post for notes to be added onto, and also no root post for time to be counted from, so it starts from zero. Most computer operating systems use Unix, which was launched in 1971 with the epoch date of midnight on January 1, 1970 as 1. Therefore zero is one second behind that date: December 31, 1969. Also, very unfortunately, this also means nobody except you and anyone you reblog it to will see this explanation, as you cannot open the notes to see comments when there are no notes.

I’m sure someones already said this but I often see Tumblr described as a hellsite. This is fundamentally incorrect.

Tumblr is the faesite. Everybody is super confused and lost, you keep running into random places. Somehow you end up stuck there forever after interacting a couple of times. The people are all strange, everybody simultaneously seems to be from the future and the past as if time is meaningless.

YES

also technology breaks at random, and sometimes you just suddenly feel a thousand years old

  • everybody has a half dozen names and none of them are their “real” name.
  • which name(s) you know gives you different powers over them.
  • there are Rules but you mostly have to figure them out for yourself.
  • getting the Rules wrong or breaking them can cost you more than you ever even knew you had.
  • Maximum Horny at all times
  • be careful what you wish for or you just might get it
  • Gift Of Prophecy
  • Illegal Use Of Bones

Okay I wanna clarify something real quick..

SAG-AFTRA is the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. So actors (and more) union.

WGA is the Writers Guild of America. So writers union.

They went on strike last year. They went on strike because of a lot of things but things like AI and residuals were big topics.

IATSE is International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. So the crew is under this.

They almost went on strike a few years ago but made a deal before it reached that point. (The union members vote on a contract that it was just over a 50/50 on the for and against. But ultimately it ended up being a a touch more on the for side).

Their contract is up for renewal right now and they are actively negotiating. If those talks don't end in a deal at the end of July, they will strike.

As a member of IATSE, we DONT WANT TO STRIKE! We want to work! We don't want to be on unemployment again. We don't want our brothers and sisters to leave the industry because they can't afford to stay.

We want to work we love our jobs but in the name of safety and making sure everyone gets home on time and can put food on the table, but we WILL strike and you WILL hear it from us and we will win, just like the writers and the actors won last year.

The Teamsters local 399 (The Hollywood truck drivers, passenger van drivers, even the guys who drive characters cars that you see on screen) are also negotiating together with IATSE. Their president Lindsey Doherty is a second generation teamster with a Jimmy Hoffa tattoo. She said it wonderfully last year "If the studios want to fuck around, they're going to find out"

The studios try to pit us all against each other. They try to make the crew blame the writers and actors for going on strike. They try to make us get mad at them for being the reason we're not working. We see straight through that shit. We are all stronger together, we fight for Halyna Hutchins, Sarah Jones, Spike Osorio, Rico Priem and all the other crew members who never made it home.

I'm sick of going to candlelight vigils for fellow crew members.

This, absolutely. We hope IATSE's negotiations are successful—striking is the always the final option!
