a concept: the air is crisp and there's a light breezes that rustles the fallen leaves outside. there's a hazy tone from the sun reflecting off the orange leaves, contrasting with the bright blue cloudless sky. you're in bed with cozy blankets and knit socks. a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. no one has seen or even heard mention of trump in weeks. hillary has just been elected president. it's november 25, 2016. gilmore girls: a year in the life is available to stream on netflix.

Lessons Gilmore Girls Taught Me

LESSON #69

“Oh, now, there’s no need to cry. Yale is full of excellent teachers.”

This lesson is brought to you by Emily Gilmore who had no idea Paris Geller was having an affair with a 60 year old professor.

Exclusive Glamour Interview with Alexis Bledel

How was it to play Rory again after all these years? Extremely satisfying. Very few actors have the chance to play a character again and get the possibility to think about what has changed in the characters life. I made a lot of experiences in the meantime - and Rory too, so I play her differently now.

Was it hard to get back into the rhythm of the fast-talking characters?

No. Although I could never talk as fast as Rory. But the scripts are so well-written that it was easy to get back into the rhythm. And I understand a lot more of the references now because I follow the news. I really feel like my vocabulary grows while shooting Gilmore Girls.

What is Gilmore Girls like in 2016? What is different?

Technology is more important now and the pop culture references have changed. We now mention Amy Schumer or John Oliver. But other than that, the show is still the same. The special thing about Stars Hollow is that it never changes. It’s like time stands still. And that’s why it’s so easy to tie in with old stories.

Is Rory still working as a journalist? Does she write about Hillary Clinton?

Unfortunately, no. She’s now a freelancer and doesn’t write about politics anymore. Journalism changed and she has to get used to it, it changes her whole life. She is traveling and working a lot, she’s looking for good stories to write about and she’s still very ambitious.

What is so special about Gilmore Girls?

Definitely the unusual mother-daughter-relationship that Rory and Lorelai have. That’s what most fans talk about when they approach me. Either they could identify with it or they wish they had a relationship like that. A lot of mothers and daughters watch the show together.

After Gilmore Girls you played some roles that were quite the opposite to Rory. Like in “Sin City” or “Violet & Daisy”. It felt like you needed a break from the idyllic world of Gilmore Girls.

Yes. I wanted to develop as an actress and try something new. When I grew up, I only ever saw men in action movies. But every role that is played by a man, can be played by a woman too.

You were part of the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” with Blake Lively, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn. Is there going to be a third movie in the near future?

Probably, yes. Blake, America, Amber and I are still good friends. I love to be part of movies that tell great stories about women. And there are always complex female characters. Movies nowadays are less cliché. There is nothing better to get positive feedback from another woman because she felt inspired by my work. That applies to Gilmore Girls too.

Are you Team Dean, Jess or Logan?

I’ve always said that I don’t want to choose. I just can’t choose one. But I can reassure the fans: the question will be answered once and for all in the new episodes.

Oh, I can’t stop drinking the coffee. I stop drinking coffee, I stop doing the standing and walking and the words-putting-into-sentence doing.

The fact that Rory didn’t feel comfortable enough to tell Dean outloud about the car accident and had to instead write a two sided letter really says it all about their relationship.
