Jersey Devil sketch
In the Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia folklore of the United States, the Jersey Devil, also known as the Leeds Devil, is a legendary creature said to inhabit the forest of Pine Barrens in South Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations. The common description is that of a bipedal kangaroo-like or wyvern-like creature with a horse- or goat-like head, leathery bat-like wings, horns, small arms with clawed hands, legs with cloven hooves, and a forked tail. It has been reported to move quickly and is often described as emitting a high-pitched “blood-curdling scream”.
Cryptid of the Day: City Island Sea Serpent
Description: In 1877, a three hundred foot sea serpent was seen off the coast of Pelham, New York, where it was said to have attacked ships and fishing boats. One man, simply known as Mr. M, tried to hunt the creature using bass fishing techniques.
Cryptid of the Day: Tennessee Giant Frog
Description: According to the Columbia Herald, on March 10th, 1869, in a cave near Indian Camp Springs in Tennessee, a mob of men claimed to have encountered a 93 pound frog, who’s appearance was compared to that of a demon. It was killed, but the story makes no mention of the whereabouts of the body.
