Biden did not call for a permanent ceasefire. He called for Israel to “put more effort into protecting civilians and aid workers.” He did not give any specific steps as to how, nor did he specify what the repercussions would be if Israel failed to meet those standards. We have been here before.

Btw we probably also shouldn’t be ecstatic about any resolutions until we see them in action. If you forgot about the ICJ’s resolution for Israel to pass aid, it’s because they didn’t follow it altogether. Please don’t fall for lip service—and don’t let it be a reason to take heat off a genocidal entity. The US signed off billions in weapons to Israel like not a month ago. All of this means nothing. These updates are all strategically planned to make you feel like something’s really happening, when nothing actually is. It’s all smoke and mirrors. And Israel is still avoiding taking any accountability for the genocide it has been enacting.

And yes I feel like this is an important distinction to make bc some people truly think that Biden is out here telling Israel to stop, acknowledging the genocide it continues to perpetuate, or saying something that actually means anything. Again—implying that Israel is failing to protect aid workers rather than outright murdering them falls right under the genocide apologist language he’s been using since the start of this genocide. Not to mention Palestinians—the very people who’re suffering day and night under Israeli occupation—seem to be an afterthought rather than the crux itself.

They are literally framing this as a “protection of aid workers” issue rather than a “Israel has been genociding Palestinians for months” issue. They do not care. This is meaningless.

We need to up the pressure, not decrease it because we think that “something” is finally being done—when even that is just an illusion.
