“Good. Good. Good—excellent Y/N,” Zuri critiqued. “Continue just like that, slowly. Concentrate do not lose the image in your mind. Do not let anything distract you.”
You ran through the darkened temple chasing after some bait Zuri had zipping through the air. It was several paces ahead of you, but you had its image in your mind, and it was what you used to track it. The aim of today’s lesson was tracking and concentration. The week before was instinct and suppression, the week before that was control before that was strength and agility, and for many weeks before was education. Zuri and the queen mother thought it was in your best interest to learn about the real Wakanda the one the natives knew about the one the lines of kings knew.
In those weeks of learning, you learned everything T’Challa knew, from the beginning history of Wakanda and Bast to the knowledge of the kings before not to mention all the scrolls and texts hidden within the temple. You were thirsty for the knowledge; you always loved education and had a passion for learning more, which is why you held so many degrees. This was how you and Zuri happened upon a few new skill, heightened reading time, perfect photographic memory, and impressive mental capacity stamina. It took you minutes to read hundreds of pages of text and to follow videography recollections and diaries. This was your favorite part of your enhancements.
“Good, don’t lose it. Its programming wants to lose you Y/N. It is programmed to be cunning and adapt to your abilities. It will not want to be found, which means you must truly work for this victory.”
You smiled. You loved a challenge. You remembered all the training leading up to this and everything Zuri, Ramonda, Shuri, and even Okoye had taught you and put it to use.
“Slow and steady is the best way to track when the prey becomes confident in their skill, that is when it is at a disadvantage.”
Okoye’s words echoed in your head. You slowed your movements and decided to try a different tactic. You stopped and focused more intently, trying to sense the bait.
“Everything gives off a signature. It could be a smell, a sound, energy, or even an essence. Everything emits something. Finding it is difficult because it may be slight, but once you find it, tracking becomes a game.”
Zuri’s words rang in your head. You slowed your breathing and allowed your heart to beat slower. It was only then when the beating of your heart was merely sixty beats per minute you found the signature. It was a slight electric surge that flowed through the air every ten seconds or so, and when it did, the air changed making it easy for you to feel it—you didn’t need to see. You smiled and picked up your pace yet again this time knowing just where to go. In a matter of seconds, you leaped into the air seeing the small blue device Shuri designed. You grabbed it, and its mechanical surges stopped.
“Good Y/N, very good,” Zuri’s voice echoed through the temple. You quickly made your way back to him.
“Yet another lesson mastered.”
You smiled as you approached him and placed the device in his palm.
