But honestly, Ben’s fascination with Rey’s power is such a refreshing thing to watch. It’s adorable how he is never shown any signs of feeling threatened by the ever-enhancing gifts of his female counterpart, instead, he’s always awed. I think he felt a sense of belonging with Rey that he had been unconsciously seeking. Not only belonging but also identification. Prior, he was all alone as a powerful individual. This is why his reaction in TFA right after Rey summoned Luke’s saber is almost of elation. Almost every Saber fight henceforth between them has become a delibrate defensive stance on Ben’s part against Rey’s offensive stance. He’s shown just wanting to be with her ON ANY COST, by either persuading her to the dark side or joining her instead to the light side. Either way his goal seemed just to be with the belonging he has found and he finally gives in. No matter what happened in TROS, I’d say he got that in the end.
