i am genuinely a little sad that Guts' theme from the 90s Berserk anime is just relegated to "the funny sad meme song" for a lot of folks. I think crafting such a haunting, bizarre sounding but deeply, profoundly melancholic track for your character that looks like this is such an incredible encapsulation of Guts as a character. you'd think he'd have this crazy heart pounding head banging metal theme but instead you get something so...meditative and distinctly tragic.

Puck is the funniest elf alive I think. Berserk, as it is, is the darkest manga I've read but Guts and Puck make my life better in ways I can't explain.

Pucks entire role is to derail guts whole edgy brooding loner bit and i love him for that

I just realized something about Berserk that I think is kinda interesting.

I just finished volume 19 and I went back to reread the first three volumes and I realized how much Guts and Puck's relationship changed. I once joked that 'Puck is a good influence on Guts, Guts is a terrible influence on Puck', but I think that's the whole thing here.

Guts hates weak people because he had to fight to survive even before he was born. It was pure luck that he managed to slip out of his mother's body before he died inside her, and that a mercenary group with a woman who recently miscarried just happened to walk by. Since then he had to work and fight every day to survive. I guess it makes sense that he gets angry seeing people whose lives are relatively better than his end in a violent way without much of a fight.

And Puck is one of the weakest creatures in the world. When Guts first met him, Puck was tied to a dart board by the neck and couldnt escape. He starts to feel sick when he feels negative emotions from the people around him. Hes tiny and easily injured, and very sheltered. No wonder Guts hated him so much when they first met.

Then, over time... Puck began to toughen up. He started attacking some of the spirits that follow Guts. He started giving Guts attitude, forcing him to thank him for stealing the keys to his shackles when he was imprisoned. Puck even had the audacity to say 'Yeah, I'm Guts' boss' even though he knows Guts can kill him whenever he wants.

And Guts goes from calling him 'Bug' to 'Puck', and stops telling him to stop following him everywhere. Their friendship is such a great part of the story. I knew a bit about the Band of the Hawk storyline going in, but I had no idea so much of the plot revolved around Guts and Puck going on adventures. It really tickles me seeing such a large, angry, traumatized, scarred mercenary traveling with an itty bitty elf living in his satchel.

(Please dont respond with spoilers for anything past volume 19, I'm totally blind for the rest of the story and I want everything to be a surprise)

New definition of gritty reboot: the story is exactly the same, but one main character has been replaced by Gritty.

Jane. All the dialogue about how she’s objectively the prettiest and sweetest sister with the most delicate manners and constitution and has trouble expressing her emotions especially when in love remain 100% unchanged.

Meanwhile, Jane “Gritty” Bennet is in the background of the shot in a 100% period-accurate dress, throwing Mr Collins through a window.

Mr. Darcy: You are dancing with the only handsome girl in the room.

Meanwhile:

Mr. Bingley: She is the most beautiful creature I have ever beheld.
