Edward Carpenter (1844 – 1929). Early gay rights advocate who lived openly with his lover, George Merrill (1867–1928). They had a home in the English countryside, made socks and sandals fashionable, and were pretty much the originators of cottagecore.
George Merrill gave us the greatest and gayest work of art, the book Maurice by patting E.M Forster on the bum.
Additional things I have gleaned from his Wikipedia article:
- was the person to popularize the phrase/concept of "the Simple Life"
- had a kink for manual laborers and the working class, and when I say kink-- "the grimy and oil-besmeared figure of a stoker", "the thick-thighed hot coarse-fleshed young bricklayer with a strap around his waist", etc.
- Not only inspired Forster's Maurice, but also DH Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover
- The socks and sandals thing. Wtf. It is not adequately explained. Can we blame all bad "dad" fashion on one gay man who wanted Indian footwear but fuzzy feet?
- Did refer to himself as a Uranian, so yup, totally identified as the period-equivalent of Super Gay
- ...this isn't stated outright in the article but it does sound like he traveled all the way to New Jersey once to dick down Walt Whitman
I begin to ask: who *didn’t* travel all the way to new jersey once to dick down Walt Whitman

Esoteric arts: Archaeologists at Pompeii in Italy have found what they believe is a female sorcerer’s box of objects. The magnificent little miniature amulets, gems, and other items were found in the remains of a wooden box at Casa del Giardino, and were most likely used for personal ornamentation or protection from evil forces and bad luck. Among the objects found were crystals, buttons made of bones, phallic amulets, and a glass bead engraved with the head of Dionysus.
the “i had a good time” factor still the unbeatable metric in deciding if media is good

leitmotifs never get old to me like holy shit dude there’s this melody that corresponds to this one guy and if you hear the melody it means the guy is there. holy shit. and sometimes it refers to ideas too not just guys. has anyone heard about this
Sometimes something fucked up happens to the guy and their melody gets fucked up too. Sometimes the thing that fucked them up also has its own melody and when the first melody gets fucked up the second melody gets mixed in
no fucking way dude. are you serious

One more joke hate: You may claim to be a woman but biologically you are a featherless biped and thus a man.
Finally a good argument for why I'm actually a man
if you told diogenes the cynic about being trans he'd be like "lol that's a sick troll you're epic" and you'd be like "diogenes no i'm serious" and he'd be like "lol that's even better lmao those guys are so mad about it" and then he'd start going by new original neopronouns every single day specifically to piss off the whole symposium
I just had an idea for a really dumb comedy sketch where a transphobe starts ranting about what really makes a women a woman, and diogenes returns each time with a different cis woman or outwardly femme intersex person that doesn't meet the criteria saying "behold, a man!"
"a woman has XX chromosomes"
*Diogenes with an androgen insensitive XY cis woman*: behold, a man!
"Nono, a woman can bear children!"
*Diogenes with someone who has medical complications associated with pregnancy*: "behold, a man!"
"nono, a woman produces the large gamete"
*Diogenes with a postmenopausal cis woman* "behold, a man!"

So, thanks to President Biden’s Infrastructure Bill, remote locations on the Navajo Nation Reservation will be receiving electricity for the first time — ever.
Also, water treatment devices are being developed to help the tribe access clean running water. After decades without.
#controversial opinion: the infrstructure bill was one of the most important bills passed in the past decade (or even... longer)#the fact that biden got it passed can never be understated. that bill sat in congress for YEARS.#we're fixing problems that have been problems for decades because of this bill
