Everything about Korean politics and the current state of government is absolutely disgusting. Recently Americans have been getting so on board with the K-wave – now all people talk about is how much they adore Korean food/music/fashion and pretty much all my friends think Koreans are just the cutest things ever. This perspective is certainly interesting, and great in that others are starting to idealize my country in a way that they have never before (SK was a developing country merely a few years ago), but it is also clueless. Over the course of the past two presidencies, South Korea has gone through a tremendous amount of economic loss and an exponential increase in national debt, a complete takeover in governmental censorship, heightened tension with North Korea, extreme political instabilities and social unrest, violation of the most basic human rights, and traumatizing national events including MERS and MV Sewol among countless others. I don’t know what to say when people talk about how much they love South Korea because I feel ashamed when I think of my own country. It’s disappointing to watch your government deteriorate in front of you and let you down. And it’s heartbreaking to realize that all your country is interested in is taping your mouth shut so that no one can talk about these issues. A country shouldn’t make you feel like you don’t belong there anymore, like you are without home. But go ahead and listen to your Big Bang, Instagram your Korean BBQ and watch your soap opera on Samsung tabloid because that’s the South Korea you want to know about. And that’s the only kind of South Korea my government wants you to know about also.

all the people who asked me previously today about my problems. its written here. please take a minute to read it.
