“So if I hadn’t done anything, you wouldn’t have?” she asked. She knew Mason was respectful–perhaps that was from his Southern roots–but she wondered if the attraction had ultimately been one-sided. “I solve mysteries for a living,” she teased. “Of course I’m intriguing.”

Alaska closed her eyes and sighed at Mason’s touch, surprised with how easy it was to relax beside him. She nuzzled her nose against his throat, then pecked a soft kiss against skin, opening her eyes to find his.

Would he have done anything if she hadn’t? Yes. But who knew how long it would have taken him to say something, to do something. “It would’ve happened eventually,” he answered after a moment. “I’m attracted to you. I was before you kissed me. I still am.”
