My name is Mack and I'm a grad student from Germany. I have a background in linguistics, language studies and translation studies. I'm currently applying for a PhD in German/Translation Studies.

I use they/them in English and hen/er/sie in German. For all other languages, improvise.

I speak English and German fluently and my Spanish is on an intermediate to advanced level. I'm currently focusing on Yiddish, Romanian, Croatian and Spanish. I've dabbled in a lot of languages and post about all kinds of languages including ones I'm not learning.

You can expect posts about languages, linguistics, translation, grad school, including a lot of resources. I'm mostly known for my MEGA folder full of study resources which is linked here.

Once I'm home I need a vacation from this vacation

#I planned this trip to not be too exhausting #But then my joints flared up #And also there were lots of problems with my friend having lots of appointments #So we did a lot in a short amount of time

Okay don't cancel me for that like I know that someone's parent dying is always emotionally difficult (even if you don't have a good relationship) and that inheriting stuff shouldn't be so difficult but class differences are Insane. My friend's mother died and he has to do lots of paperwork and pay taxes to receive the.... Several pieces of land and apartments he's inheriting plus. You know. Money. If my mother died (knock on wood she doesn't) I'd probably be homeless within a month and I wouldn't even be allowed to keep like anything that belonged to her because she was in debt. And I'd also still have paperwork.

#Like of course what he's going through sucks but #Once it's done with he has passive income for the rest of his life #I think the only person in my family I could potentially inherit from is my grandpa and it wouldn't be much because #Most of it is going to his biological daughter #He doesn't even mention my mum in his will

I love my friend (the one I'm visiting) but he's so hectic and hyperactive and he seems to genuinely don't understand I have chronic pain and fatigue and that I simply can't do that many things in a week

#Whenever I mention my joints hurting he chuckles which is beginning to make me uncomfortable #And I keep having to explain again and again that I can't see like the whole city every day #I walked 50km since Sunday and my battery is empty #I'm not having fun if I'm in pain #And he keeps being like oh but you haven't seen everything we haven't done everything yet #Like would it be so bad to just sit on the balcony and read in the sunshine?#And order some food #Considering that his apartment is huge and he's posh and lbr a bit spoiled #Sorry but like it's true

After watching how booktok is making people fall for overconsumerism with book hauls and such, it was nice to go to my local library. They even put how much I'm saving, and I wonder if other libraries do that too! Please let me know!

Excuse me I need to go on a spiritual trip (a walk) before I am committed to The Great Mission of saving the world (writing an essay) I need to align my Chakras (get the happy hormones going) first.

I love the Catalan Countries and have a special connection to the region (as special as a foreigner can have one) but honestly I'm surprised at how good the vibe is in Madrid and the climate is a lot more comfortable for me.

#Too bad it's landlocked #If I was rich I'd get a place in Barcelona and one in Madrid and one somewhere else where it doesn't get warm at all really #And like move back and forth based on the weather

I keep getting Starbucks ads in Spanish because of that one time this week I walked into a Madrid Starbucks, saw the croissants are 4€ and walked straight out again

I'm honestly beginning to think that a lot of people read the phrase "on the wrong/right side of history" too many times and got a little too obsessed with it from an "end justifies the means" way. I think a lot of people are forgetting they're in the present, not posing for history books in a far off future, and that the way they treat people here and now does matter.
