Bitter Sweet Symphony

Summary - Based on a request of Billy playing the drums: Billy has allways had a pent up frustration and anger within him, nothing seemed to help him let this all out until one night you decide to show him your fathers old drum kit.

Warnings - Angst / fluff ish

A/N - Hope you enjoy! I really liked this concept of Billy playing the drums.

“i really liked your post!”

Thanks How About You Reblog It :)

just in case you’re wondering what i’m talking about:

13%, 21%, a whooping 30%, 15%, 21% again. and those are the stories that do well.

it’s almost like tumblr has a reblog button you could USE

LIKE IT? REBLOG IT!

it’s not fucking difficult.

also i love how i gotta make these posts practically every time after i publish something.

look, i don’t give a fuck about money. i’m writing fic for fun. if you wanna throw a billion dollars at me, sure, you do you.

but literally all i want, all we all want, is for our stuff to be acknowledged. spread. REBLOGGED.

because obviously you read it and liked it, right?

so now all you have to do is hit that little button. it looks a little like this

Image

and then that’s that.

or, on ao3, you write “i really liked this! thank you for sharing!”. and that’s that.

it takes absolutely ZERO EFFORT, and it makes you happy (because you liked what you just read) and it makes us happy (because our work can get potentially more readers), and everyone is happy.

and instead, there’s likes all around.

and likes are a little like seeing someone having their arms full with things and they drop their keys and you walk past and say “hey dude, i hope that works out for you!”

writers spend hours, even days and weeks or months on fics, pouring ourselves into it, forgoing sleep and food sometimes just to finish something because we hope you’ll like it.

and we get a litte ❤️ for our troubles and that’s it.

and especially when you get statistics like above - 42 likes and 9 reblogs - it feels like a kick to the face.

if every writer only wrote for themselves (”as you’re supposed to do uwu”), there wouldn’t be a single fic out there, because we’d keep all the fics. but we write for our audience too, hoping we’ll hear back, hoping people will spread our fics, “hey, look at this cool thing i read!”.

and that doesn’t happen.

so you start thinking “hey, maybe i shouldn’t publish this. it’s bad anyways, right? and it doesn’t make a difference if i do. it’s not like anyone cares.”

how many thousands and thousands of words for your favorite ship do you think are out there, saved on hard drives by authors who’ve given up wishing to publish their things, because “nobody cares.”

reblogging and commenting seems to be at an all time low at the moment. and you know what happens when you, the supplier, feel like there’s no demand out there?

you stop supplying.

because nobody cares enough to want to share it.

“thoughts and prayers with your fic! it was so good!” that’s what the like button means, to make an extreme comparison here.

and honestly, i don’t understand why.

reblog. your. writers. it’s all we ask for.

No writers or artists are trying to sound “whiny” by asking for this. It’s literally how our work gets any recognition since we’re not doing it for money. If you’d like to make a writer’s day or an artist’s day, please consider reblogging works that you love. I promise you will put a smile on their face. <3 <3 <3

Yep.

If my work (in a large fandom at least) doesn’t get comments, I think ‘hm they must not have liked this one.’ Especially as the hit counter (or likes) climb to prove that people have /seen/ it, they just don’t like it.

So then I delete it. Because clearly it wasn’t my best work.

You wouldn’t believe the reblogs on my post about this very thing that are just people accusing writers of being ‘whiney’ or writers apologizing for sounding ‘whiney’.

I even legit got someone accusing me of being lazy by asking people to reblog my posts.  “Just post it on ao3 and stop guilt tripping your followers into doing YOUR JOB and boosting your fic.”  Wow.  Way to miss the point, Susan.  I can reblog it all day, and the same people see it.  But if other people reblog it, different people see it.  It’s not that hard of a concept.

I’m not whining.  I’m asking you for recognition.  I’m asking you to reblog a thing if you’re able.  Likes do not boost the work’s visibility.  Likes are lovely and likes are great, but likes don’t make your work visible.  Reblogs do.  It’s not rocket science, people.  Sharing it boosts visibility.  Liking it does not. It even makes sense if you think about it.

no offense but like…..reblog the fics you like. there is nothing more discouraging than having people read your fic without leaving kudos or any form of response. comment if you like it! send them a message! use the tags to talk about how you liked it! share the work so that others can read it too!

too often fic writers deal with people hounding them for updates, but never any feedback. end the cycle. reblog the fics you like. talk about them. share them.

This!! ^^^ helps more than you can imagine

So this is something that’s been interesting to me for quite a while now, and I think it needs to be said once again. Likes are great, but if you really like an artist’s work, please consider reblogging it.

No one sees your likes. I know I’m extremely fortunate with the amount of notes that I do receive, but this isn’t just about me.

Smaller artists don’t get exposure because people don’t reblog their work.

Please support your artists with reblogs. <3

Truths, Dares, and Drinks Ch. 1

Welcome, one and all, to a new series involving the Stranger Things guy we all love to hate, Billy Hargrove.

I’ve had this idea in my head since I saw season 3, so here it is. This is an Everyone Lives AU, no secret government facility, no Upside Down, etc. Eleven (if/when she ever shows up in the story) is a normal girl that was adopted by Hopper after his wife left him. Reader is the badass lead singer of a local punk band that’s basically an 80s mixture of Paramore, Hey Violet, Joan Jett, and the Runaways.

As per my usual stories, Reader is afab (assigned female at birth) but referred to with gender neutral pronouns.

Enough intro, let’s get to the story!

Word Count: 967 Big love to my beta readers: @anxiousamandapanda and @barbarasbae

Announcement

Chapter 1 of my new Billy Hargrove x Reader series will be posted at 7:30 pm EST this evening. For now, please enjoy this teaser for chapter 1.

For context, this story takes place in an Everyone Lives AU where there is no secret government facility, no Upside Down, everything is normal. Elle (if/when she shows up in the story) is a normal girl who gets adopted by Hopper after his wife left him. And Reader is the badass lead singer of a punk band.

Also as per usual in my stories, Reader is biologically female but uses gender neutral pronouns.

“I, for one, would love to hear why you wouldn’t wanna sleep with Hawkins’ most eligible bachelor,” Dawn teased.

“You asked for it,” you said with a shrug. “First of all, he’s not my type. I’m just not into those ladykiller wannabe types, ya know? Second, sure he looks good, but he’s an arrogant shithead that only thinks with his dick. And the girls in school ogle him like a piece of meat, hopelessly unaware that that’s all he sees THEM as! And third, every other girl has these delusions that THEY’LL be the one to tame him, make him settle down, and all it does is feed his ego even more when they’re willing to spread their legs to do it. The guy pisses me off for more reasons than I can express.”

“Damn, okay,” Dawn said quietly. “Well in the spirit of Y/N being so honest, anyone up for some Truth or Dare?” You smirked as Liz and Halle mumbled their agreement.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME ABOUT PRO WRITING AID BEFORE?! THIS THING IS FUCKING GLORIOUS. HOLY SHIT. LOOK AT THIS.

IT GIVES YOU A WHOLE DAMN REPORT ON YOUR WRITING AND WALKS YOU THROUGH HOW TO MAKE IT BETTER AND WHY IT IS SUGGESTING CHANGES. THIS IS JUST A TINY CHUNK OF THE HUGE REPORT IT GAVE ME ON THE FIRST CHAPTER OF ONE OF MY PROJECTS. I AM IN LOVE.

AND IT WORKS WITH SCRIVENER. AND IT IS AFFORDABLE.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME?!

Seriously, a couple hours with this and my first chapter is so much better. It helped me see problems I KNEW I had (passive voice, showing vs. telling, adverbs) but was having a hard time sussing out. It has made editing so much more fun and easy because now I know what the hell I’m doing and what to look for instead of stumbling around blind shouting “adverbs? adverbs?” like a town crier. I can already tell I’m getting better at seeing things without the program having to show me too.

I officially worship this thing.

hey

i know

you may have

an aesthetic

but this

shit

is

incredibly fucking discouraging

support content creators. this isn’t instagram or twitter. simply liking is not enough and isn’t seen by anyone but you. it’s just not enough. not when no one sees it. stop letting peoples hard work go unnoticed. stop contributing to art dying on the creators blogs. this also goes for writing and basically any other art on this platform. if you liked it, please share it. it takes about the same amount of time and i assure you, seeing a reblog makes a creator much happier than a like.

this is a problem. in case you need more proof:

this is one of my fics.

i’ve been in the fandom for a long time - 4 years long - and when i first got here, reblogs were way more of a thing than they are now. I wish I could pull up receipts of really old posts that I’ve seen (gifs and graphics and fics alike) that got so many more reblogs than likes. for some reason or another, things have shifted. when i tried to start putting out my writing 2 years ago i thought that everyone just hated my writing and was giving me “pity likes” because i got like, 12 reblogs on a fic out of 200 notes.

obviously we’re putting out this content for free, people are consuming it for free - there’s no obligation on bloggers to signal boost or reblog or whatever. but it is encouraging, and nice. and if you like the content - consider reblogging it. it’ll encourage the creator who made the content you enjoy, which will probably motivate the creator to make more of the content you like - a happy cycle  :)

@staff are you fucking kidding me right now?! You’re limiting text posts to 100 text blocks (aka paragraphs). What the absolute fuck.

Since you couldn’t take out fanfic writers with the purge so you’re just fucking up formatting for text posts until they leave? Is that your plan?

Would this count as a text block?

100 is a lot unless you write a lot of dialogue.  I wonder if just linking fics on my word press would work because god damn this site is making things difficult.  It’s like they’re trying to have people not use it.

I’m so over this shithole

Does Tumblr just have it out for Fanfic writers? Is the Tumblr staff secretly Anne Rice or something?

FFS you’re joking me?

yeah I noticed this, and I completely hate it lmao because I do write a lot of dialogue and I write small paragraphs for easy readability ): I might have to post everything on AO3 and just link it on here :/

Well, this is the new tea and I hate it.

Gettin’ real tired of your shit, Tumblr.

FUCK YOU @staff

Welp. So this is a thing now.

The title apparently counts as one line since it wouldn’t let me go past 99.

Seriously @staff ????

Weeeeeeeeell fuck.

This site is becoming such bullshit.

And let’s not forget your posts with links won’t show up in searches.

Well, this is garbage. Not only does this affect authors, but us meta writers as well. Fantastic, just keep trying to destroy your own effing platform, Tumblr. I’m guessing those “text blocks” also include any images we add to our meta as well.

Signal boosting for all writers who write a lot of fics and meta on Tumblr… just do it on google docs so it saves, and copy-paste it to Ao3.

Please don’t fucking log off tumblr on the 17th as a protest. All that’s going to do is give tumblr more reason to shut this place down because of revenue loss.

Please don’t fucking log off tumblr on the 17th as a protest. All that’s going to do is give tumblr more reason to shut this place down because of revenue loss.

This is blatantly untrue

Companies do not experience one day of revenue loss and pull the plug, destroying years of work and firing dozens if not hundreds of employees.

Companies which experience loss in revenue and consumer interest make investments and changes in order to regain their users/customers. That’s why organized protests and boycotts WORK. Tumblr will NOT go down after one bad day or week, but they might be willing to listen to its userbase if we put up an organized protest. (If you don’t believe me, think about how long sites like MySpace and Google+ hang around with fractions of their previous user base, often for years.)

Yahoo paid over one billion dollars for Tumblr, and the website will not go offline because of a one-day event, so in conclusion,

DO log off on December 17th to show Tumblr that you disapprove of its recent content ban and clumsy execution of censorship.

Please reblog this version of the post to stop the spread of misinformation.
