Okay, so Dracula gives us the team of:

- Arthur “I don’t know what’s going on here, but I am finding qualified help immediately” Holmwood

- Quincy “does somebody need a hero? Point me at the problem” Morris

- Abraham “I have 9 PhDs and I’m not afraid to use them” Van Helsing

-John “Let’s focus, we need to get our paperwork in order before people start asking inconvenient questions” Seward

And every modern adaptation wants to make Count Dracula the sexy one??

I feel like if the early movie adaptations had made dracula look like an old man with a big white mustache, that all the later adaptations would have gone differently.

Two or three weeks into june, the mulberrries and serviceberries around here finish up, and just before they do, the raspberries start to get ripe. Before they are done, the blackberries will be getting ripe, and before the blackberries are done the nuts will be getting ripe. . . . #wildfood #berries #wildedibles #foodforest #forestfood https://www.instagram.com/p/CQNcMLCln3T/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hey look, an orchid (Cypripedium parviflorum). . I’m going to be out of the clinic (and in the mobile clinic) Thursday through sunday. If anyone needs an in-person or distance consultation or remedies refilled or anything like that, let me know before i go. I may not be easy to reach while i am out of town. . . . . #herbalist #mobileclinic #medicinewagon #playthink2021 https://www.instagram.com/p/CQAWv74Fn1q/?utm_medium=tumblr

Comfrey (Symphytum officinale) is a plant that i have used a fair bit in a first aid context. [insert gratuitous anecdotal lede]. I make a salve out of it something like this: bring 250 ml of oil (sesame oil if it’s handy) to a simmer, and add about 25 grams of fresh comfrey leaves. Simmer until they are completely dry and crispy, which may be 20 minutes or well over an hour. Then add crushed mugwort (a sphere ~2cm in diameter) and a gram of mugwort ash. Remove from heat and allow to steep for 10 minutes. Strain liquid and add 25 g or so of beeswax, returning to heat if necessary to melt it, then add 10 ml. Wintergreen oil. (If you don’t have wintergreen oil, add 20g or so of poplar buds or violet roots when you add the comfrey). Cover immediately and allow to cool. . . This salve is a combination of something i learned from Appalachians, something i learned from Uyghurs, and something i learned from my mom’s side of the family. It has accompanied me on many first aid adventures, from family-friendly festivals to protest camps to full-blown armed conflicts. It’s good for reducing inflammation and pain, and for helping a variety of minor injuries to heal. . . . #herbalmedicine #herbalist #survival #firstaid #recipe #salve #comfrey #plantmedicine (at Lexington, Kentucky) https://www.instagram.com/p/CP-O_yelj60/?utm_medium=tumblr

Mulberries are ripe/getting ripe right now. They are good to eat, and birds love them (they are falling on the ground at the same time fledglings are hopping around learning to forage). Here is a recipe (from my free ebook, link in bio) for a molasses-like remedy made from mulberries. Traditionally used for fevers and immune support (in the same broad class as elderberry syrup), and also for intestinal regularity (like other kinds of molasses). . . . Mulberry pekmez 4 parts Mulberry (e.g. 4 liters) 1 part water 93 2 cc. of ash from Mulberry twig (optional). (This is meant to thicken the molasses. I cannot attest from my own experience as to how much difference it makes). . Mulberry pekmez is made by simply reducing mulberry juice until it becomes a molasses or syrup. Crush or puree the mulberries. Add the water, and ash if you are using it, and let stand overnight to allow the sugars and other compounds from the fruit to dissipate in the liquid. Strain and press out as much liquid as possible then reduce over a simmering heat until it is 1⁄4 to 1⁄5 the original volume of liquid. Decant into a glass jar and allow to cool. The pekmez will thicken upon cooling. Give 1-3 tsp per day for children and 4-6 (or more) for adults. . . #herbalism #wildfood #pekmez https://www.instagram.com/p/CPPZg0_FhAa/?utm_medium=tumblr
