sorry if im bad at things i was just invented today. by a mad scientest
speaking of comics and mangas, I think superman vs meshi generally has a really good characterization for Clark
i havent been like, actively keeping up with it, but ive read every page that why-i-love-comics posts and it looks so fun! i really should fully check it out eventually
so called free thinkers 2 minutes and 39 seconds into the song
If I ask nicely will people reblog this and tell me what their most common breakfast is? Not your favorite necessarily, just what you have for breakfast most frequently? 🙏🏽
luckily for Jay-Ree & Joenne, Jimmy & Clark knew enough engineering/architecture/whatever you need for a house that the doll house was fully functional and had everything they needed
damn..... theyd do numbers in doll collector circles
recently at a bar someone told me i seem like id have a lot of pdfs
one of the reasons I want to read Atom and Doll-man stuff is because of Superman stuff; there was a set of stories narrated by a piece of Kryptonite, and in one of them two Kandorians save Superman from it (it turned gold) - but they lost their own powers since the metal eaters got free and ate theie lead shielding. It was only going to be one of them but Jay-Ree's girlfriend wanted to go with just to be with him in case he perished. Anyways at the end they live in a dollhouse and so I want to know if there's any tiny people that are only doll-sized instead of subatomic
Plus I kinda want to write my own "Kandor is unshrunken" story with at least 4 factions of Kandorians - those that want to stay small, the same as last but want powers, those that want new krypton, & those that want rokyn. What do you know maybe some of the new generation of Kandorians like the bottle despite its history so that could be even more factions.
But first I have to figure out Jay-Ree & Joenne's situation to write it
man, i wouldnt want to live in a dollhouse. doll furniture looks nice but a lot of it seems like itd be super uncomfortable to use. plus half the time there arent even any stairs between floors, smh
id totally read that kandor story! i def feel like there would be kandorians that would want to stay in the bottle, in a sort of "devil you know" kinda way. but there are so many different ways to go about the idea of freed and/or unshrunken kandorians that you can really play around with it.
tbh it helps that on a Discord I was on I was posting a DC character a day and I was trying to do supporting characters for the main 7 jla first in superman, batman, wonder woman, flash, Aquaman, martian manhunter order*
so I read random issues with one-offs if they were on at least one of various wikis
*gl was only occasionally posted since gl is a job...
but I kinda stopped... i should read more wonder woman & aquaman
a noble quest.......
we should all read more wonder woman and aquaman, probably
honestly the comic manga switch thing I'm doing helps a lot for both of them.
I've caught up on witch hat atelier and kagurabachi because of it. and finished dungeon meshi
(2 of the other mangas i'm caught up on were read before this idea, tbh I forgot when I started reading them)
reading all of these makes me think one of my favorite things in media is (obvious) character parallels/foils.
I enjoyed Vigilante, Spy x Family, Chainsaw Man a lot because of them. And Superman and Batman also have a ton.
I think I'd enjoy Hulk & Spider-Man because of this (<- has read immortal hulk and bits and pieces of Spider-Man like I think a truncated clone sage? idk)
omg i finally bunkered down and finished dungeon meshi a month ago, since i was lazy and fell off following it sometime around 2017 and figured i should actually like. find out what the hell happened after i dropped it
youd probably enjoy spider-man! its hard Not to find some spider storyline that doesnt interest you. i probably read like, a thousand spider comics before i branched out to other stuff. though.. a thousand is not that many, when it comes to spider-man. he really does show up everywhere
yeah I tend to like obscure characters a lot, from Batman's godson whose twin was a witch to Orana & Ar-Val. One interesting one was Michael Norris. I'm not really sure what his powers were but he had them!
Or Kara's daughter Judy/Equila who shows up, her stepdad wants her to betray Supergirl and then he dies after taking away her powers. And then the next issue she appears she gets kidnapped and then at the end taken home to her grandparents (I choose to believe their her grandparents on her mother's side...)
Or the Superman robot that ended up with a merfamily!
Or the best Kandorians ever - the Kandorian lookalike squad (and I choose to believe that the Clark Kent Lookalike (& his son) is a descendant of the kryptonian Skyman (who is a previous reincarnation of Kal-El according to a jimmy Olsen issue, which is his sole appearance); they have the same last name Don)
im studying you under a microscope (positive)
no but im amazed over ur memory. i tend to forget about one-off characters like this almost immediately. i love this. i love u
huh, it's weird how things work out, Kamandi, Jimmy Olsen, New Gods, etc are why I want to read 1994 Superboy. I forgot if it was legion that made me read Kamandi or just Jack Kirby's DC stuff. (because of the Karate Kid crossover)
ah. well then heres your warning. the last boy on earth arc of superboy 1994 is SO bad, especially if you know anything abt kamandi. its actually kind of appalling. but the comic as a whole is already kind of a rough read tbh.
i think i got interested in losh because of kon too? between valor showing up early in the 1994 run, and the period when a resurrected kon was hanging out in the future with them and imra was telling some recruits about what happened to element lad. and then when i actually started reading losh comics, mon and jan became my faves so.... it was fate. i guess.
wait no
Post-Infinite crisis.
not post-crisis on infinite earths. though I have enjoyed some of the random 90s superman stuff I've read.
most of the superman stuff I want to read is bronze age or 2000s I think? plus I've already read like the best silver age issue maybe. But I want to read every named Kryptonian's appearance. then I can complain some more about how faora was changed. oh and every Zod's appearance - the red sun one seems very interesting
I think I've also read every silver/bronze age story with a superman expy in superman (with the exception of all the Vartox stuff - which I mainly want to read his pre-crisis stuff) or where Clark has a sibling/"sibling" - I think Mighto, Kraal, & Kathy Warren have a lot of potential. Kathy only appeared twice and everyone else once. also read all of marsboy's appearances and they were kinda interesting. So there's a lot I've already read.
OH. augh. all these damn crises.
i know ive read at least mosttttt 2000s superman comics but i think its all mush in my head now. i love your dedication though. you fascinate me and i fully support your quest to learn about obscure superman-related characters
speaking of animal man, his runs and the swamp thing runs outside of their most famous writer is also something I've been meaning to read; there's just a TON of comics that I've wanted to read
basically what I've been doing currently is finishing a comic run(s) (in case there was crossovers - that's why I finished blue devil- he had a crossover with firestorm*) , and then catching up on a manga I've either heard good things about or read a bit of it before... I don't think I can fit detective conan into that duality though. I can squeeze in something that's 100 chapters, maybe even 200, but 1000? I think that'll also be in bursts...
*firestorm is one of the 80s comics my brother recommended; it crosses over with a bunch of the 80s DC government comics, but I'm still currently on the Gerry Conway run, so it'll take a while to get to the big crossover
also decided to start watching the post-og yugioh animes because it's like comics - in that there's so much missed potential... (plus i wanted to after reading all of the mangas, outside of the 2 current ongoing ones)
animal man is. interesting. i wasnt super into the morrison issues when i read them, but i like them a lot more in hindsight. the vertigo issues are Very vertigo, for better or worse. ive found that im just not that into the vertigo Vibe, so it wasnt really my favorite era, but its def influenced how hes been used as a character since.
the comic-manga-comic thing is a fun idea tho! it would probably encourage me to read more manga ive put off over the years
I was reading in chronological order - but my focus was solely on any Superman kids. Elseworlds, Imaginary story, dream world's. Any of them. And since I don't consider Kon his son, I didn't read Kon
I'll probably really enjoy new krypton, when I actually get around to reading the whole arc... Post-Infinite Crisis Superman stuff is some of the superman stuff I'm most interested in, but there's a lot of older comics that have either been recommended to me or that I have more of an interest in reading atm. plus I want to read a lot of the bronze age superman stuff, so it'll probably take a while before I get there
yeah thats fair. i just read any character that interests me, and i pick up new characters to check out via appearances during reads im already doing. it makes a fun little web. superboy 1994 is the main reason i picked up losh comics AND why i read kamandi (the knockoff kamandi arc in that superboy run was... not good. its kind of amazing i found it interesting enough to read the actual kamandi comic)
im with you on the post-crisis superman stuff tho. i think thats where i really started reading superman in chronological order, while poking around in earlier stories whenever i felt like it. with a character like him, i cant imagine actually going and reading everything from the very start. id probably die
one thing i wish i saw more in fics and such is silverbolt being just a little bit of a bratty teenager. Whenever i become bored and decide to re-watch g1, i get reminded of all his occasional fun sassy one liners.
YEAH its not like hes suddenly so much more mature just coz he was assigned team leader. we gotta let him be a little shit too. hes got so many good lines! its such a fun glimpse into his personality beyond "teachers pet"! hes snarky and a lil manipulative (affectionate) and the only reason it doesnt stand out as much is because the other four just happen to be even more wild somehow
tbh I think since I was ONLY reading for Jon Lane (& thus skipped most of N52 Superboy) that might've helped in my appreciation for Jon Lane? Since I didn't have to read much Lobdell and thus didn't have to read the worst parts to get to the ending?
Tbh my top 3 superman kids* are: Gregor, Jon Lane, then Chris. I feel like if new krypton was allowed to be longer, Chris mightve been bumped up to #2
*jimmy is an outlier and should not be counted
see, when i read for a character i read Everything. in chronological order. so when i was going thru kons appearances that meant going thru all of n52 superboy and teen titans. i think it did something terrible to my brain. i did go back and do a few rereads on Just jon lanes stuff tho because he really is the most interesting part of n52 kons whole Thing but my brain is pretty much numb to that whole comic at this point 😓
but we love chris in this house. from what glimpses ive seen of what dc is doing with lor these days its so annoying bc i think that even if they did want to keep him as a zod in this continuity he and jon couldve been interesting parallels for their dads and it still drives me nuts that dc did Nothing with those superbabies!! augh!!!!
