Vanilla Fudge Ripple: a strength headcanon

For @captain-of-the-imperium due to lack of specifying.

Elena’s strength comes in her command. Although, it isn’t just command of a naval warship that she excels at. Her time during the warp incident has given her vast experience in something she wasn’t shabby in to begin with, and so she can easily command infantry operations - which she has done whilst in service to the inquisition - with very little adjustment required.

What does Elena do to de-stress?

Avatar

Work.And win.

It’s not healthy, and she’s suffering, but there is a beautiful relief when one gets the upper hand on something. Whether it is combat, arguments, interrogation or anything similar. To win, to come first, to pass, to survive … It’s enough to help her forget stress once in a while.

Tea also helps. The warmth of tea can be relaxing. As can looking out the viewports into the nothingness of space.

What is one thing Elena wishes she could have done different, knowing what she knows now?

Avatar

She would leave a note to her younger self. I say a note, but it’d more likely be a report, a massive one at that. She would write in it, all the events in her life so far. From Risa’s death to an engagement with hostile forces. She would evaluate each and every one of them, explaining her actions, why she took those actions and what information she was missing. She would talk about casualties and damages on both sides and what the consequences of this were. She would include a series of suggestions with this extra information, and do this for every event she can think of.

Because Elena is willing to bend the rules, and she knows, as stupid as it sounds, that she would at least hear herself out, she would at least read everything given, and make her own choices. It won’t change everything but it will change some things. And hopefully, it’ll keep more people alive. On her side, at least.

What was the most pivotal moment in Elena’s life?

Avatar

This one is correct throughout her verses. Watching her Fiancée die, due to the actions of someone she at least treated. From a loved Officer to a respected one. From warm, inviting and sociable to the utter definition of appropriate Officer behaviour, with an unhealthy lack of social life. It sprung her up and made her Captain material, but it changed her so vastly.

Would she have been better off if she had stayed with Risa, if she hadn’t died? We just don’t know.

Avatar

Her getting pregnant was also a major pivot in her life, as anyone with children can appreciate. However, it changed very little professionally and although she had realised that must be a little warmer, it has had little effect on her personality towards others.

But she is happier. That much is for certain. For now.

What did Elena dream of as a little girl? What does she dream of now?

Avatar

She wanted to follow her Father. She wanted to be a Naval Captain and to rule the stars. She wanted to have his strength, his charisma, and his ability to earn and deserve respect. She wanted to become the best. Her dreams never really went into the Admiralty. Her Dad was a Captain and he was the best, so that is what she wanted to be.Now? It really depends on who and when you ask. But peace. An end to all of this, is usually her answer.

For here, Elena wants peace. But she wants her family safe. She wants to be a good Mother for her two little girls, she wants them to become the best, no matter who they might become (Reasonably speaking of course).

Unexpected Returns

It had been a while. How long? They couldn’t tell, they didn’t know. The warp had a habit of doing that. Stories numbered in the thousands where one ship disappeared for weeks, before being spat back out, the crew dead of among other things, old age. Or quite the opposite, gone for years, decades or even centuries, but only showing a few weeks.

Time was fickle, especially in the Warp.

And the crew of the Imperator Justicia found this out first hand.

Originally sent to aid in a naval battle against the Tau Empire, the ship was attacked, ambushed at just the right moment by the dreaded archenemy. With just enough time to escape, they warp jumped away, almost crippled by the ambush.

But they were caught prey as mishap after mishap. The Gellar field began to falter, the Navigator didn’t keep the ship steady through the grains of the Warp, and now . . They were drifting. Drifting through the Warp.

The Cruiser was more than large. And the inevitable possessions, murders, tension, riots, began to rise. Grip on the Engines, the Gellar, the Bridge, Security. Every key system was under siege by those under the claim of Chaos.

Everything was slipping. But they held on. With prayer, faith and a loaded shotgun, each of the remaining loyalists - the Dwindling few fought tooth and nail to keep themselves from falling. He on Terra picked handfuls at a time, handfuls of men and women to join his side.

The fighting continued, and continued, but one had to ask, just how long could the remaining Imperials fight on? Just how long could they stop the enemy from winning? Just how long could they keep the Imperator Justicia flying the colours of the Imperium?

Five years.

Six months.

Thirteen days.

That was how long they fought. They survived all that time, a handful - not even enough to count as a Skeleton crew. That was how long they lived, until given the Emperor’s Blessing as the last Navigator on board, a novice compared to the others - found that opening, found the exit.

Found the way out.

And so the Justicia was thrown out of the Warp, violently, drifting away as it’s Engines tried it’s best to choke back to life.

Five years, six months and thirteen days …

But how long had it really been?

The first post made by my main blog.

Five years ago.

Elena has outlasted this blog, being on another one for just over a year before hand, and having about a six month break in-between them.

Elena had always been a major thing for me, even if I did delete her once before. Despite being created literally because there wasn’t a Naval Officer around at the time (And pretty much still the case, though there are some side characters), I feel like I connected with Elena a lot better than I had done before with other characters.

Finding Joséphine de La Baume was something great for Elena, as finding someone who so perfectly fitted how I pictured Elena was quite literally the reason I created this blog and brought her back.

It’s been fun so far, and Elena has remained the most developed and loved character I’ve had. She’s developed into her own person that can fit pretty much everywhere, and I’m really proud of what I’ve done.

Will we be here in a years time? Maybe, but Elena will remain something quite special.

It really has been a good time.

Elena & the Justicia - Connectivity

Elena is probably considered a purist, in regards to becoming one with the ship. Many Captains have many plug-ins into their command throne, making it easier for them to connect, control and command their ship. And although the Command Throne of the Imperator Justicia has such an ability, Elena does not use it. She has no parts that she can connect to it by choice. She has seen and heard of what it can do, and whilst she greatly respects the machine spirit of her beloved ship (that she is no longer a part of) she dares not “tap in” to such a system, too concerned about the effects such a thing will have.

Thankfully, her prowess as a Captain means that the difference in efficiency is somewhat marginal. But the arguments remain the same. If she is so great an Officer already, then just think of her untapped potential if she would relinquish her selfish fears.

Something wicked, here arrives [2/?]

The rest of the Chaos Fleet pursued the Imperial ships, leaving just Station Vigilantia’s meagre defensive cannons to try and hold back the massive brute that was the Malum In Se. Of course, the cannons could do little more but scratch the thing, and it wasn’t long before the ship of Chaos was docked.

The attackers were met with a hail of rounds from the Armsmen who had been waiting for them. Although they had been stretched thing, finding it difficult to protect themselves from the civilian populace, the bottleneck of the docking bays were a force multiplier for them, one they were thankful for.

However, the push of cultists storming out, as if they had been crushing each other against the airlocks. Whilst the first few waves of them had been naught but cut down, the heretics took ground inch by inch. It was costly for them, but they paid the price eagerly.

Over the hours, the Armsmen were unable to hold the line. They fell back, setting up killzones and traps as they had trained. But the enemy kept advancing, undeterred by the efforts to keep them at bay.

Cut off from reinforcements by the heretical docked ship, understaffed, underequipped, it felt unlikely that things could get any worse. Except things had. The tension that had been festering for the past few years was not just a result of the citizens of the station being irritated by the mere presence of the Navy, but instead a slow cooked plan that was now ready.

The Citizenry rose up.

The shots came from behind them. The first barrage was accurate, but soon it was just a suppressive and wild amount of fire towards the front lines. The Armsmen reacted, but to be attacked from two opposite sides meant that something needed to move, and it wasn’t going to be cultists that continued to storm the lines, almost immune to the incoming rounds - especially now that they saw the Citizens, twisted with anger  doing what they could. The decision was made quickly and swiftly, they needed to fall back further. But their path was covered by the citizens who had taken up arms in the name of chaos, whether they knew that or not.

Although the cost had been high for the forces of chaos, in the few hours that the assault had began they had gained a lot of ground into the Station, well past merely securing a foothold. The cost had not been small for the Imperial forces either. The cost in ground and the cost in manpower had both been something they could not afford, but still they fought bravely.

By the sixth hour, the Imperial defenders were faring no better on the station than they were in space. The fleet, or what was now left of it, was in disarray. Elena couldn’t blame the ones that had pulled back, jumping away in the warp to regroup and warn the campaigning fleet in the next system. By that, she feared it would be too late for them. Although they had the home field advantage, it wasn’t worth much when the citizens had began communicating with the Chaos forces. Though she had done her best, her experience of fighting with her back to the wall from the Warp Incident, Elena knew that it would likely just be a matter of time.

magical item: aquila bracelet and necklace set, special ability psychic repression if worn together.

For @captain-of-the-imperium

After being cleared through customs and all the checks, Elena looked it over. As it was of the Aquila, it would fit uniform regulations for religious pieces of apparel.

Putting it on, she certainly felt something different. Everything around her felt … Dim. As if she had put on mental sunglasses. But part of her felt … Comforted, despite that.
