we always talk about how Michael Buble and Mariah Carey come alive when the Christmas season starts but need I remind you that it’s actually Pentatonix who gets to decide when Christmas starts

[id: screenshots of tiktok captions. the images say, “but the only reason we still love princess diana is because she did not have the time to disappoint us.”]

begging queer kids to read up on princess diana’s involvement with the community. yes, she was a rich, pretty monarch. yes, she died young.

but the reason why queer people love her is because she used her privilege during the aids crisis to advocate for sick queer men, when very few others would - much less someone of her status.

diana spent years advocating for the health and care of queer people with hiv/aids. in 1987, at the height of the epidemic, she opened the first specialist clinic dedicated to treating aids patients (the first clinic of it’s kind in the uk).

she also fought public hysteria by hugging and shaking bare hands with aids patients, at a time when aids was thought to be spread by skin to skin contact. not only that, she visited patients in the clinic regularly and even comforted them through their sickness.

and when queen elizabeth told her to try focusing on “something more pleasant”?

diana ignored her and kept fighting.

and this is only her work towards the aids crisis. she publicly called out the royal family, brought attention to numerous world issues, and was known as an advocate for empathy and kindness. she’s known and loved as the people’s princess for good reason

Diana also literally walked across a minefield (through a lane cleared by the humanitarian organization HALO Trust, which she was promoting, but there was still some risk). She used the paparazzi who always followed her around to raise awareness of the plight of landmine victims in Angola, met with survivors who still talk about her visit, advocated on their behalf to the UN, and then went to other places suffering the same problem.

Her advocacy was instrumental in helping push forward a treaty to ban the use, production, and export of land mines. She was attacked by British politicians for meddling in government policy, but the Ottawa Treaty was signed by 122 countries including the UK three months after her death. One of the anti-landmine groups in which she'd been involved received the Nobel Peace Prize.

I remember the photos of her holding hands with dying AIDS patients, of her sitting by them and listening to them like fellow human beings, at a time when tolerance was radical and most people feared AIDS was transmissible by touch.

I also remember her holding HIV-positive babies, when most people were paranoid about fluids from AIDS patients— and let's face it, babies leak. (There was a brutal subtext to criticism of Diana's AIDS work: was she neglecting, even endangering, the heir(s) to the throne?)

Like Carrie Fisher, Diana wasn't a perfect human being. But she did indeed use her privilege to advocate for and amplify the voices of those with none.

What you will read next is a tiktok video that I transcribed myself, because I thought I should share what the girl in the video (@blackpnwlady) said. You guys can go there and watch the video if you want, I just thought that not everyone would stop to click in the link. So, tighten your seat belts for a long read.

Referring to episode 10 of the first season of House of the Dragon:

"The accident makes sense. And it makes sense cause Aemond didn't understand his dragon.

I was discussing this with my mutual, cause Vhagar is essentially a 'war horse', she's has been into battle and she was trained to kill. And that is how she has survived wars.

So, Storm's End, that entire thing was set up for disaster the minute that Aemond diced that he had to chase Luke.

He took a fuck war dragon in a chase after a much smaller dragon, and terrorized it. And that smaller dragon, of course, cause it was afraid, attacked Vhagar.

And keep in mind, Aemond is like

"no no no we're just kinda fucking around and messing with them".

Vhagar never saw that way.

So what does Vhagar do? She goes in for the kill.

Cause this is exactly what she was trained to do. It was always a battle in Vhagar's mind.

First of things, here's were Aemond fucked up. He set up that entire scenario to be like a battle, for a war dragon. He completely underestimated his ability, .... (I didn't understand that part) Vhagar, and earning her respect as a warrior.

Because he'd been flying around with her for six years, right? But he has not been into battle with her. He hadn't trained for battle, that we've had seen.

So it makes sense that Vhagar would completely ignore him at this point. She's like

" no no no you don't know what the fuck you're doing, kid. I've been to battles, you don't know what is going on, but I know how to protest both of us and get out of this scenario alive. "

"Oh but they need to listen/learn?? (again, didn't understand) to control their dragons."

Even Daenerys have problem in controlling her dragons, to listen her at some times.

Because keep it mind that these are fucking intelligent animal that will fuck your ass up. And sometimes they don't listen to their riders. We have seen that in the past.

And this being a accident actually makes a lot of sense if you think about the characterization of Aemond that we have seen thus far. He wanted his nephew's eye, but we didn't see him like "I want to murder this kid!". He was like "I just want his eye, I just want revenge"

He understood what would happen if he killed him. That was why he was horrified at the end. Because he knows what she just started. And he knows that there is no way to stop what is coming now.

He just started a fucking war.

And it comes into the fact that he just wanted to fuck around, and found out the consequences. And unfortunately, Westeros is about to find out as well. Because Aemond didn't know what the fuck he was doing with a goddamn war dragon. "

There. She just said everything I wanted to say but couldn't explain.
