- Clear Quartzđ - This crystal can be used for literally anything and is very easy to program with your intent. Stock up on this stone because it can be used in replacement of any crystal in a spell. It is also a great stone to use if you really want to give your will a big boost, because clear quartz amplifies everything. And the best part is if youâre worried about your local crystal shops sources, you can find this stone naturally in just about any creek bed that has gravel patches.

đUnusual Death Witchcraftđ
- Visiting natural history and art museum. Not only for the spirit work (museums are surprisingly rife with spirits) but also the reflection on the objects themselves that are imbued with death energy due to their age.
- Kitchen witchcraft with fermentation. Iâm talking both home starters/yeasts and drink based fermenting! The process of encouraging fermentation is literally a controlled necromancy if you think about it! Also your own fermented product will be excellent to use in spellwork!
- Upcycle crafting! The process of reusing items in a new way that you already had or seeking out items to use instead of letting them become trash is also working with death energy!
- Playing death related games or watching movies with friends and family. Death witchcraft tasks and energy work doesnât have to look witchy! If you have a weekly or monthly hangout where you play tabletops like Betrayal at House on the Hill or even online games. Or watch documentaries or movies with loved ones that related that totally counts! Especially as a lower spoon option.
- Drawing or photographing abandoned buildings/architecture. So often people forgot that the decay of manmade objects and places do hold death energy and weight. Tapping into this side of death witchcraft can be an interesting experience.
- Visiting a 24 hour store or restaurant in the middle of the night. This is a personal experience of mine but that quiet low level liminal space energy is such a similar transitional energy as to help you grow your experience and sensing of death energy. Also walking through a store at 3am is a good time to practice a walking meditation or some simple spirit communication without too much trouble. Just have your headphones in for an excuse!
- Learning to maintain your own compost! Iâm hopeless with the green thumb side of things myself but I still have composting I do for my yard in general. My wildflowers and natural growth is lovely because of it! The cycle of your kitchen supplies life and decay is such a simple and deep way to access that death energy and maybe even work your way up to having that green thumb! Also using this compost in spellwork will pack a punch!
What are some unusual ways you experience death witchcraft and energy?
A spell commissioned by @landofthespirits-homeofthegods during @technocoven! This one is a combined meditation spell and protection charm inspired by the rune Nauthiz - need, and concern. Iâm also kind of digging the little ink blot spirit on the graphic, NGL.
Meditation does not come easily to me, so it wasnât my first thought on how the spell would pan out, but after some conversation with Cassi and seeing some of their comments on the Diviners Anonymous server, building something around runes and a spell focus seemed like the ideal option.

Recharging Post-Divination
Whatever form of divination you choose to practise, you will likely find that you feel tired once itâs over. This is normal and not something you need to worry about, but the fact itâs normal doesnât mean that it is particularly nice! Aftercare is important.Â
Here are some easy ways to help yourself feel more relaxed and rested and even invigorated post-divination!
- REHYDRATE! This might seem like more of a general life tip, but if you feel drained, you need to make sure youâre hydrated. Dehydration causes exhaustion, clouded thought, bad moods and, in more severe cases, can make you very sick. DRINK YAâ WATER, WITCH.
- NAP TIME! Thereâs no magical goodness in this, other than the magic that is sleep. If you need to sleep, then do it. Sleep is the bodyâs way of getting true rest, and during sleep the body recharges, recovers, and heals.Â
- HAVE A BATH OR SHOWER! Baths and showers are known to be relaxing, but for me I find that showers are more invigorating, whereas baths are relaxing and chill me out more. Itâs likely different for different people. The heat of baths/showers will warm you and release any tension youâre holding. You can draw energy from the heat and cleanse yourself (physically and spiritually!) in the water.Â
- GET COMFORTABLE AND LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT LIFTS YOUR MOOD! Music does have some magical uses and connotationsâsuch as the vibrations raising the energy of a spaceâbut the main use of it here, is just to lift your spirits and make you happy. Sometimes, divination can be tough and music often has a way of helping us to unwind and feel better.
- HOT BEVERAGES! Not everyone likes hot beverages, so this isnât for everyone (if you are one of those people, donât worry)! I often find that tea blends are best when it comes to post-divination stuff. Tea in itself is known to make people feel relaxed and more chilled outâI think hot drinks have that affect because they make us feel more comfortable and cosy. However! Tea is amazing because you can make your own blend and tailor it to whatever you need. Want to relax? Chamomile and Lavender! Want to feel more energised? Peppermint! Green! Ginger!Â
- MEDITATE/GROUND! Not everyone meditates, but for those who do, this can be a nice way to release any tension, ground yourself [click here for more information on grounding] after divining. Meditation and grounding can be particularly useful after intense sessions.Â
- EAT SOME GOOD FOOD! Get yourself some good, filling food! I find that my go-to post-divination food is usually something that is both fresh and filling, like a carb/veg/salad mix. It really is that simple! If your energy has been sapped by divining, youâre going to need to refuel.
- DO SOMETHING THAT YOU ENJOY, THAT YOU CAN DO WITHOUT FEELING DRAINED! Some people may binge watch their favourite TV show. Some people may read a book. Some people may knit. Some people may go for a walk. Whatever activity you can enjoy without feeling as though it drains you and tires you out, do it. Itâll make you happy, feel energised, and shake everything off that needs to be YEETed away.
- INCENSE AND OIL DIFFUSERS! Want to relax? Burn/diffuse some Lavender. Want to raise your energy? Burn/diffuse some citrus!Â
- OPEN A WINDOW! Fresh air can be one of the most refreshing and calming things in the world. Crack open a window. Itâll help. I promise.Â
The common theme here, is do things that make you happy and keep you well. Rest when you need to, eat and drink, and do what makes you feel happy.
Worshipping With Executive Dysfunction
Ironically, Iâm writing this to avoid doing my Work Job. Letâs get into it.
- Set an alarm so you remember. Pick a specific time youâre going to worship, because âlaterâ never comes and âsometime this eveningâ rarely does either. Instead, set an alarm so that you already have that time set aside in your mind, and so that you donât mentally blow past it when that time arrives.
- Keep everything in one place. Keep the offerings near where you would offer them, as well as anything you might need to do it, like matches or lighters. Make it so thereâs as little travel time as possible between you and what you want to do.Â
- Think through the ritual setup beforehand. Sometimes the offering part is easy but getting to that point is overwhelming, especially if your tradition involves ritual purification or invocation rituals. Boil it down to the bare essentials and capture the essence in a way that doesnât have so many steps, if you can. (Ex: Is that personal purification rite just an ancient way of washing away germs, and if so can we just mindfully wash our hands and fulfull the riteâs function?)
- Start with something little. Getting started can be the hardest part. If you donât have the energy for an entire offering ritual, break it into pieces. Just do the setup and approach the rest later if you need. Or just put on a playlist to get into the mood for now. Or take a couple deep breaths to refocus your brain. Ease into it as slowly as you need.Â
- Think ahead with your offerings. Will you have the spoons to clean up after? If youâre like me and run the risk of not removing an offering for days (or weeksâŚ) then think ahead to what can stay there a long time, just in case. Nobody likes cleaning up the altar and finding mold in the offering dish. Incense, water, and dried plants tend to work well, as do nonphysical things like music and poetry.
- âWhile Iâm at itâŚâ If you catch yourself in a spot with good momentum, try to get a rite done while you have the energy instead of putting it off. It can be something simple, but use the energy and the drive while youâre on top of it since we canât always guarantee it will be there in even an hour.Â
- Keep things similar so that you donât have to rethink every step, every time. A rock solid routine with what a ritual looks like helps it become a lot more automatic, and therefore a lot easier to actually do. Routine becomes habit.
- Remember that something is better than nothing. Anything that helps you touch base with your Divine and keep them close is a good thing, and most people donât give an offering every single day. Donât waste time beating yourself up for not performing at the level you wish you could. Instead, celebrate the love it takes to do something at all for them through your Executive Dysfunction; youâre already pushing yourself and striving to do your best for them, and thatâs incredible. Hang onto that.Â
Prayer to Hades
Hades, mighty king, you are the light that never fades, the steady flame that warms my bones
you are the lighthouse that keeps me from drowning in the sea of grief and leads me back home
I find you in the quiet, dark places. I find you when I lose my footing. i find you when I cannot bear to go on another moment
you are my light.Â
to you I pray, the consoler, help me to stand against that which hurts my heart. help me to stand against that which haunts me.
to the mighty king that listens to my prayers, I thank you for the blessings youâve provided me,Â
Hail Hades, my dearest king!Â
My Personal Haidesâ Epithets
I love epithets! I also love creating and finding my own to use for worship. Here are a few I use in my hymns, poems, and prayers to Haides.Â
- Father of Snapdragons - have you seen the little seed capsule things? They look like skulls. I feel like He and Persephone collaborated and created a flower child.Â
- Solemn King of Ages - Heâs been there through the years, the ages, He has seen people from every generation.Â
- Flower-Wreathed King - I feel like Haides has a certain flair for His beautiful wifeâs gift to the world. When theyâre together, I view it blooming and when theyâre apartâŚÂ
- King of Broken Petals - This is the more morose aspect of Haides I worship. Itâs the Haides I picture with a withered flower crown, bent over in His throne, humming a sad melody that reminds Him of a song Persephone sang once.Â
- The Dreaded Son of the Shadows - This is the epithet I use to describe His strength, power, and His darker side. I like to honour the deathly part of Haides, the King of death.Â
- Bone King - This is pretty self explanatory, He is the King of the dead.Â
- Overseer of the Dead - Just a similar title to Host of Many.Â
- Dragon King - Dragons are often viewed as creatures who treasure shiny, valuable things. Sometimes I offer crystals and pieces of jewelry to Him under this title.Â
- Scout of Light - He waits for Persephone each Spring and Summer, constantly scouting for her divine light.Â
- King of Soft Smiles - I picture His expression unwilling to change, but does on occasion. In particular, to the soft smile Persephone inspires.Â
- Master of Plenty - This is an epithet of abundance.Â
thinking abt the time i was cuddling and watching movies with my boyfriend and he said he liked it when i was touching the the back of his neck and i was happy because i was tracing protection sigils on that lil space where your mind is supposed to open to the universe and i wanted him to feel safe because i loved him and ugh thatâs so fucking gay but i think casual use of the craft in a relationship (with consent!! he knows i practice and he knows that i do that) can really strengthen that beautiful bond between two people
Hades.
dark academia witchcraft is studying greek and roman deities in the day and worshipping them at night, stacks of old books with post it notes and scribbles of ideas and sigils, enchanting your tea to assist your studying, plants cradling down the bookshelf, poetry that recalls a love from your past life, raising glasses of red wine to the gods before discussing philosophical ideologies with your friends
