thing about deltora quest that only occurred to me in hindsight is not only just how much jasmine carries the entire party on this quest but also how genre-defyingly brutal she is lol. like, this is a kid's series that hinges on riddles and puzzles far more heavily than combat - even when deaths occur, they're often the result of cleverness in some way rather than straight up combat ability. that said, let's look at the villain kill count at the end of book five of eight of the first series:

- lief: 1 - even there it's with a well-thrown bottle of cursed water rather than his sword.

- barda: 0 - i'm not counting that one unnamed sand beast, that's an animal not a villain.

- filli: 0 - he is a squirrel, this is unsurprising.

- kree: 1 - killed an invincible sorceress all by himself, good bird best friend.

- jasmine: 5 - dropped a tree branch on a mf, drowned two cannibals in quicksand, cut a giant snake's throat, shoved a dude down a pipe full of toxic mold (after having to be told not to cut his throat while he slept jfc).

idk it just suddenly struck me as really funny how this one character who isn't the protagonist is almost from a different, far more brutal story, and uses that fact to consistently be the mvp and save everyone else's asses. i need to read this series again it's been too long.

It's also the fact that Jasmine saved their asses so many times too. In my eyes she was genuinely the smartest because she was the one who was most often suspicious of the situations they were in, and of course she was, she was raised alone in the woods. You see this especially in book six where they separate and Lief realizes just how much they depended on her to survive and dodge danger. MVP for REAL

“The “1998 incident” is a nod to ‘The Faculty’ - a movie in which all five archetypes were present, yet there were no fatalities. This was a result of the chemical department’s oversight of the scholar (Josh Hartnett’s) home-made narcotic amphetamines which were used to kill the monster (alien), leaving all archetypes alive and well.” (x)

I don’t think Dani or Malcolm realized how much they had wanted to kiss until they actually did it, then afterwards they were both like “holy shit” because neither of them had thought of it as a possibility and there’s so many factors to consider in their relationship (mental health, they’re friends, and they work together), then on top of that there’s no time to think about it or talk it out right now because of all of this kidnapping business

STOP I HATE IT

eve and malcolm: hook up like after two episodes

y’all:

edrisa: gets a crush on malcolm like the first time she meets him

y’all:

brightwell: have a slow build up across a season then start to acknowledge their feelings more across the second

y’all: ngl .... kinda rushed ://///

Lmao true though I think it’s the whole jump from partners to he has a phat amount of feelings for her that we only saw in little sprinkles season 1

Martin talking to Ainsley about convincing people she is normal had two affects on me.

One, it means I will never be able to know if Ainsley’s emotions are genuine, or if she is following Martin’s advice and faking it.

Two, it reminded me of what I said some time ago about how I know Malcolm is not like Martin. Malcolm clearly feels very deeply, but he has never been able to fool anyone into thinking he is normal. That is the exact opposite of Martin.

okay I think I'm gonna write a brightwell drabble every day until the next ep. prompts?

Read your two drabbles and OMG you’re such an amazing writer!! That being said, here are some prompts for if you run out of ideas this week. Much love

  • Dani and Malcolm get a drink together after work (and she gets a Shirley temple cause duh) . Mayhaps she gets hit on and Malcolm is about to be like ‘leave her be’ but our girl has it handled
  • Dani rambling about a passion! I don’t care what but I would love that for her. (Bonus points of Malcolm says something like ‘I like your rings’ and that’s what starts it)
  • They get food at a chain restaurant that Malcolm has never been to after chasing a lead
  • A parallel to episode one where Malcolm saw his mom, except this time, Dani sees like... an ex and is all “oh hell no”
  • Conversations about cold hands, earl grey, why Malcolm doesn’t drive and/or Sunshine
  • And if you want angst you prompts? They’re trapped in a room together and have to wait for Gil/JT to bust it open so they talk to fill the time
  • Dani gets a gash on her head and Malcolm goes for the first aid
  • Lollipops

I dont know if its due to fear of cancellation but i am honestly shocked at how fast Prodigal Son has went with Brightwell like I thought I was gonna be in for a long drawn out slowburn until at least season 4 and in fact they are already pretty much canon in season 2 like as a brightwell shipper i love this but at the same time lowkey kind of wanted the long drawn out slow burn 🙈

idk where this idea that brightwell is rushed comes from. maybe i'm just gay but it's unrealistic that malcolm wouldn't fall in love with dani sjsksk she's beautiful and she cares about him and has been the only person (romantically) not either use/manipúlate him or treat him like a freak OR walk on eggshells around him either.

i think he had some developing romantic feelings toward her in s1 but didn't fully realize them until 2x06. falling in love works that way sometimes, esp if it's with a friend. falling in love isn't one specific formula. i understand if you think it should've been more developed and that is something to discuss with the writers, but the way some people act you'd think they only knew each other for like a week.

also feel the need to remind people that this season was weird because there was a PANDEMIC. it felt off in places and not just in terms of brightwell but sometimes you gotta meet a story halfway especially in times like this. just bc he has canon romantic feelings for her and they're gonna kiss doesn't mean they're gonna be bf and gf right away and i don't even think any brightwell shippers are expecting that? hopefully we get s3 and have him fully open up to her, see them become closer without any secrets between them and get a chance to see more of her backstory etc but for now i think we're just enjoying what we're getting and that's ok. licherally it's just a tv show, we're all here for a laff.
